Sokoto To Spend N169m On Stadium Renovation by Gistpeeps: 3:58pm On May 25, 2017

The Sokoto State Government said it had awarded a N169m contract for the renovation of the Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto.

The Youths and Sports Commissioner, Alhaji Musa Ausa made the disclosure on Thursday in Sokoto at a news conference to mark the two years in office of Gov. Aminu Tambuwal.

“The state government is making arrangements to pay the contractor 30 per cent mobilization fund soon.

“This is to enable the contractor to commence and complete the work on schedule and to make the stadium to be in tune with current global standards.

“The government has also earmarked N150m for the construction of a stadium in each of the three senatorial zones.

“Our plan is to construct a mini-stadium in each of the 23 local governments in due course to boost sports development,’’ Ausa said.

The commissioner said the government was making efforts to revive schools’ sports competitions across the state.

“In this direction, the sports ministry has packaged mega-sports competitions to be conducted between now and the end of 2017.

“We want to restore the lost glory of schools sports in the state as they serve as feeders to the various sports associations in the state and Nigeria generally,’’ he said.

Ausa noted that the ministry had assisted the members of the state chapter of the Association of People Living with Albinism with N2.5 million worth of drugs, umbrellas and sun protection creams.

The commissioner also said that the government had donated a vehicle worth N2m to the association to aid their activities.
