Police Intercept Truckload Of Anambra Poll Materials by Sunnybobo3(m): 5:48am On Jan 16, 2010 |
A truckload of electoral materials suspected to be illegal was yesterday intercepted by the Police while being taken to Anambra State. It was seized at Okija, a town in Ihiala Council of the state, along the ever-busy Onitsha-Owerri Federal Highway. The development has thrown up questions about the credibility of the election scheduled to hold on February 6 in Anambra. The materials in two containers were being conveyed in a truck marked No XS 139 AKD-Lagos, accompanied by two persons who claimed to be soldiers who were escorting goods meant for Port Harcourt, Rivers State. But they ran out of luck when their truck accidentally hit a commuter vehicle that was also said to be in transit. The police officers on road checks who came to investigate the cause of the accident became suspicious when one of the drivers fled with one of the containers on sighting the officers, while the police held the other. On close examination, the police discovered that the contents were highly secure election materials, stored in cartons, ballot papers, ballot boxes, election result sheets, alleged to belong to some ex-National Assembly members in Anambra State. One of the escorts who had claimed to be a soldier was eventually discovered to be a student in a tertiary institution and is currently helping the police with their investigations. When reporters visited the state police command, Awka, the commissioner, Mr. Philemon Leha was said to be attending the Armed Forces Remembrance Day while his deputy, Oshodi-Glover Poopola was not available to speak But The Police Public Relations Officer Emeka Chukwuemeka who confirmed the arrest to The Guardian early yesterday said the contents were Independent National Electoral Commission INEC security election materials. He said the origin of the materials, ownership and the number, age, gender of arrested suspects remained highly confidential at this stage. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/news/article02//indexn2_html?pdate=160110&ptitle=Police%20Intercept%20Truckload%20Of%20Anambra%20Poll%20Materials |

As long as we have that glaring thief as INEC chairman, expect worse things to happen! That is why Iyiola Omisore can win a Senatorial seat election even when he was in prison on murder rap of the erstwhile Attorney General, Bola Ige. That is why a dead or brain dead Yara-dull will win the next Presidential election and run Naija from the grave As long we we have that Alli Baba as INEC chairman. Prof Wuru-Wuru, should have been sacked and imprisoned for fraud and treason, a long time ago! But then, its PDP now, abi no be them? Only armed struggle can change the life of Nigerians, not these sham elections that are rigged in favor of PDP |

No wonder the state, Anambra, is in crisis. Where is the outrage? The election outcome in Anambra is an harbinger of what to expect in the upcoming national election. Rigging and hooliganism galore! I can't wait to see how madam re-branding is going to spin this one. As far as i can tell PDP controls the Police and INEC by proxy which, of course, will make things difficult for lazy opposition parties. My guess, there can't be a credible election in Nigeria until we have Independent Police and INEC. As long as PDP nominates, via Mr. President , who get to be police IG and INEC chairman, credible election will remain elusive. |
Re: Police Intercept Truckload Of Anambra Poll Materials by metalgong5(m): 10:44pm On Jan 16, 2010 |
IVY-Nerd: You guys should always try to choose the correct words. What kind of CRISIS is Anambra state witnessing that is different from that going on in your state? Or is it because they are the only state having a guber election this year. As an Anambrarian, I have noticed that the campaigns have so far been good, the incumbent governor also enjoys a favourable rating from the populace, so what crises are you talking about? Anambrarians are only asking for a free and fair election which is a normal slogan in any part of the world. |
