Before you can study in any deutsch (germany,austria,) free university, you must have a considerable knowledge of german language. Pls if u will want to make such a move, get all proper info and language proficiency to avoid huge mistakes

You must have your goethe b1 or b2 certificate as your level of language proficiency for degree students. But for masters, and depending on the course, a2 may be accepted

You don't need to have knowledge of german language if your course will be taught in english language... There are hundreds of English taught courses you can choose from, so learning d language is not compulsory
