CHRISTIANS AND CIVICS
READ ROMANS 13:1-7
MEMORISE: For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God's ministers attending continually to this very thing. (Romans 13:6)

The Bible is replete with men and women who diligently served sacredly and secularly. Reading one’s obligations to one’s country does not only show that one is a good citizen, it also means, especially for a Christian, that you are a Bible-based believer. It is sceptical that one can claim to be so heavenly conscious that he/she becomes irrelevant or insensitive to his or her immediate environment! Jesus taught His followers to be law abiding and paying all their dues as and when due. He even showed this by making Himself an example for them to follow. Our civic responsibilities should not in any way be compromised for whatever reasons. The fact that our systems have become bastardised, compromised and adulterated does not exonerate Christians from observing their civic responsibilities, which are statutory.
Believers, true ones of course, must pay all taxes, bills and render other statutory obligations without being forced or unnecessarily compelled! You bring no glory to God, and He will never be proud of you for evading taxes. You can’t be a good evangelist of the Gospel, if you are one of the defaulters in terms of fees, bills, rates and taxes. What about your attitude to environmental sanitation matters? You should be a good example to unbelievers!
As you venture out today, prepare your heart to obey all Bible-based regulations as you discharge your civic responsibilities. It shall be well with you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Oh Lord, enable me with grace to perform my duties to the government faithfully.
2. Father Lord, cause our government to see the plight of the governed.
3. Lord, help all Christians to be more committed to biblical civic responsibilities wherever we find ourselves.
