FC Barcelona has released a statement on Monday to announce that the former Athletic Club boss will take over from at Camp Nou this summer.

The Catalan Club confirmed that Ernesto Valverde will be their new coach for the 2017-18 season.

The 53-year-old stepped down after four seasons in a second spell at Athletic Club last week and was widely expected to take over from Luis Enrique this summer.

Barca had promised an announcement after the Copa del Rey final and a statement on Monday confirmed Valverde as the new coach on a two-year deal.

“I have spoken personally with Ernesto Valverde and I told him of our decision,” said club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

“He said he is very excited and very happy, that it’s a great challenge to come in as head coach of Barca.

In other news, Barca has also unveiled its 2017/18 Home kit earlier today.

The issue is many of these people only watches the EPL, only time they watch la liga is when they want to do oote against Barcelona. This same mediocre coach was contacted by arsenal to see if he can replace wenger cos he is a seasoned coach who has proven time and time again both in Spain, Greece and Europe that he is good. I have no doubt that he will do better than enrique cos tactically he is well grounded than him 100%, better man manager and someone that can implement the cruyff and bielsa style. Barca will be great again

Eusebio and berrizzo will be a good proposition for the future, rumors has it that unzue is the tactical genius behind Enrique, time will tell, personally I don't like koeman, he is to egoistic to manage the club.valverde contract is for two years with an option for a 3rd. Don't see him lasting longer cos managing barca is like assuming the position of US president

Well said get bellerin, marquinhos or laporte, seri and/or Eriksen, veratti but his injuries scares me, I expect we sign vitolo for the right wing with messi moving more central cos valverde tactics always changes depending on the game from 433-4231-4312. For us to win Champions league again, it's essential we play a winger and move Messi to the middle, cos our right wing is always the weakest against big teams, so a natural winger like vitolo will help the RB more than Messi and leaves Messi with the chance to pick all his amazing passes and run the show @d middle.

U have a point. But what u failed to put into consideration is the fact that Iniesta himself is not defensive. So, replacing him with Coutinho will be more of a like for like. Apart from MSN and maybe Rakitic sometimes, which other worthy goalscorer do we have in the whole team? That's one area RM has that Barca lacks. Sergio Roberto is good, but he doesn't have that creative side. Barca can't trust him with Iniesta's position just yet. In fact he is more of 10, than attacking midfielder. We need Verrati, Coutinho, Bellerin (i am not a fan of him tho) and two quality defenders!

Am.saying dis again ...barca doesn't need coutinho ....d guys dribbles a lot ...nd plays more like a winger.... If barca should gt him maybe he would b playing as a winger while messi drops to iniestas role dats d best option ....its either Barca gets verrati,thiago,or get coutinho nd let messi play in a deeper role .

I still believe in Vidal nd gomes....barca shouldn't sell rafinha ..if not de will end up making another mistake like wat happened with his brother....leave Denis,gomes,rafinaha,Vidal,....sell mascherano,matheiu,turan,vamaleen masip (on loan though).
