*PROCEEDINGS OF THE NIGERIAN SENATE OF THURSDAY, 1ST JUNE, 2017*

Its a new Legislative day in the Nigerian Senate. Senate President Bukola Saraki took the official prayer and led the Senate into today's proceedings.

Senator Monsurat Sunmonu moved for the approval of votes and proceedings of Wednesday, 31st May, 2017. Senator Gilbert Nnaji seconded.

*ANNOUNCEMENT*

Senate President Bukola Saraki welcomed the staffs and Students who were present in the gallery to observe the Plenary.

*PRESENTATION OF REPORTS*

1. Report of the Joint Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity and Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy. Motion on the Hike in Electricity Tariff by Senator Suleiman Nazif.
-The Senate received the report of the Joint Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity and Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy in respect of a motion on the Hike in Electricity Tariff by the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Distibution Companies (DISCOs).

Senator Joshua Lidani seconded that the Senate received the report of the Joint Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity and Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy in respect of a motion on the Hike in Electricity Tariff by the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Distibution Companies (DISCOs).

The Report was LAID.

2. Conference Committee Report. National Assembly Budget and Research Office (Est, etc) Bill, 2017 (SB. 222) by Senator Emmanuel Paulker.
-The Senate received the Conference Committee Report on the National Assembly Budget and Research Office (Est, etc) Bill, 2017 (SB. 222).

Senator Ibrahim Gobir seconded that the Senate received the report of Conference Committee on National Assembly Budget and Reserch Offcice (Est, etc) Bill, 2017 (SB. 222).

The Report was LAID.

*CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS*

1. Report of the Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Screening of 15 Nominees for Appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners by Senator Suleiman M. Nazif.
-The Senate considered the report of the Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the Screening of 15 Nominees for Appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners.

Senator Clifford Ordia seconded that the Senate received the report of the Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the Screening of 15 Nominees for Appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners.

Senate dissolved into the committee of the whole to consider the report on the Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the Screening of 15 Nominees for Appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners.

Senate reverted back to Plenary and reported progress.

Senate confirmed the Appointment of 15 officials as Resident Electoral Commissioners of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Senate President Bukola Saraki congratulated the new nominees, wished them a successful tenure, he also complimented the work of the chairman and hoped the officials perform well thereby improving the Electoral Process.

2. Report of the Committee on Works. Federal Roads Authority (Est, etc) Bill, 2017 (SB. 219) by Senator Kabiru Gaya.
-That the Senate do consider the reports of the Committee on Works on Federal Roads Authority (Est, etc) Bill, 2017 (SB. 219).

Senator Atai Aidoko seconded that the Senate considered the report of the Committee on Works on Federal Roads Authority (Est, etc) Bill, 2017 (SB. 219).

Senate dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for clause by clause consideration of the Report of the Committee on Works.

Senate reverted back to Plenary and reported progress.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu said that further consideration of the Bill will be moved to another Legislative day.

*ADJOURNMENT*

Senate Leader moved that other items on the Order paper be stood down to another Legislative day. Minority Leader seconded.

Plenary is adjourned to Tuesday, 6th June, 2017.
