Update: 7 charged with ‘murder’ for the gruesome lynching of military officer in Ghana (Photos)

Seven persons arrested including an assembly member for the gruesome murder of a military officer in Denkyira-Obuasi, the Central Region of Ghana were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Cape Coast Thursday morning where they were provisionally charged with ‘Murder ‘amidst heavy security.
Police prosecutors, led by ASP Avornyo, told the court presided over by Rita Amonyiwaa Edusah to remand the accused persons as thorough investigations into the gruesome murder continue.

The court consequently granted the application by the prosecutors and remanded the seven persons to appear again on Monday, June 19, 2017.

William Baah, the assemblyman of Denkyira-Obuasi is said to be the mastermind of the lynching and subsequent burning of a part Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama’s body on Monday, May 29, 2017


Captain Maxwell Mahama who is commander of a military detachment in the area was jogging along the Denkyira Boaso-Diaso road when he stopped and asked some women for direction. He was not in a uniform.

Upon sighting a pistol on him, the women mistook him for an armed robber and alerted the assembly member who allegedly organised some men to lynch him and even burn a part of his body.

Very good radiance and solid effort from Ghana police. The suspects (perhaps now confirmed offenders) should be prosecuted according to the law.

I frown and at same time indifferent about jungle justice in Nigeria case because offenders will just pay heavy bail and be set free without court action.

What happened in Ghana makes me to wonder the rate and unjustifiable killing of innocent Nigerians to jungle justice.

No matter how much i think about it, honestly, this soldier is so patriotic to not have scared them off by firing his side arm into the air and eventually trying to point the gun to some of them to back off. He was so patriotic to not have shoot any civillian which are even armed. Look at what patriotism caused him.
Seriously, if you condemn the barbaric act of jungle justice, i have a lot of people who will want to come for my head and disconcur. To be honest, jungle justice is uncalled for. People should stop taking law into their hands. Eventually, the innocent will surely have a taste of the injustice maiming.
The family of the soldier have been left stranded woth nobody to run to for help.

I believe those women who made false alarm should be arrested too. At least, if not charged with murder,they should be charged with false alarm and should be sentenced to jail.

You will kill a Captain in NIGERIA and that village is still intact. Dare kill a Recruit or Private, whether they will not wipe your village how much more a Captain.

Unfortunate death ! But what's a military man doing on the streets in mufti and a pistol and asking for directions?

It means he wasn't familiar with the terrain and it's not his usual jogging route. Thorough investigation should be carried. Something isn't right.

He should have at least moved with at least a means of identification as an officer

This is too bad that no investigation was carried out before lynching the innocent army officer.
However, we thank God that the culprits were apprehended and now facing the full weight of the law.
The way and manner this case is handled will serve as a deterrent to others.
