Philippines police identifies casino attacker

The Philippines Government on Friday disclosed that it has identified casino robbery attacker responsible for the death of 37 people and injuring over 54 others on Thursday in Manila, the country’s capital.

The gunman burst into a Resorts World Manila (RWM), firing shots and setting gaming tables alight. Police said the gunman may be mentally disturbed and appears to be a foreigner, adding that suspect set himself alight in resort hotel room, police said.

Police said they are looking at a person of interest in connection with the attack. Chief of Manila's southern police district, Tomas Apolinario, said the person was still alive and was believed to be a Philippine national. It was initially feared the attack was terror-related, but Philippines police later said robbery was the likely motive. Only one suspect was involved in the incident, police said.
