What follows is an except from the Guardian story, "Why Obama Hit Nigeria Very Hard, Mutallab Inquest Raises Dust"
By Martins Oloja (Abuja Bureau Chief in London)
http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/news/article13//indexn3_html?pdate=170110&ptitle=Why%20Obama%20Hit%20Nigeria%20Very%20Hard,%20Mutallab%20Inquest%20Raises%20Dust&cpdate=170110

Indeed, a US diplomat was last week quoted as saying that the mysterious absence of Nigeria's ailing President from the diplomatic scene at this critical juncture has been largely responsible for the impasse between Abuja and Washington DC. The veteran diplomat had asked rhetorically: "Where on earth is Nigeria's President in all this, "

The credible report on the reason the US government included Nigeria on the "high risk" terror list, had also cited absence of Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States, at this critical moment as another critical factor that shaped the negative development.

But The Guardian was told last week that the Farouk Mutallab foiled attempt to blow up a US-bound plane on Christmas day last year, was just the last straw. There are more hard, but hidden facts behind the news of blacklisting of Nigeria, according to diplomats, some of who had served in Nigeria. According to them, even as they spoke quietly, some elected leaders who had threatened to encourage Nigeria's breaking of diplomatic ties with US, are part of the trouble with Nigeria, as they play the ostrich by looking the other way when Nigerian leaders fail to deal with sectarian crises.

Specifically, one of them said: "US diplomats who have been on the Nigeria's beat for some time are aware that Nigerian leaders have not punished any of the perpetrators of sectarian crises in the northern parts of the country. They have always arrested religious rioters, charged them to court and released them without diligent prosecution, we know this, They have never used any Commission of Inquiry reports to punish any perpetrators or to chart the way forward, "

The former diplomat revealed further: "We have also noted that when Intelligence and Security agencies file warning reports to the central government on how to prevent sectarian crises, the government has always failed to direct action agencies to prosecute perpetrators diligently. This has led to belief within the Western diplomatic community that Nigeria's Government shields misguided elements who abuse Islamic religion to perpetrate evil, including terror within the country, "

"Besides, we read how the horrible Boko Haram mayhem in Borno State would have been averted if the federal government had made use of the many intelligence reports filed to deal with the planners. Now we are aware that there is a very educated sectarian leader in Zaria, Kaduna state, (in North West, Nigeria) who has been training militants to disturb the peace of the Country."

. . .

"We are aware that the militants, like the Boko Haram masterminds, want leaders to embrace Islam as state religion, So, we are rather amused when your critics of the new American policy say that Nigeria is not a breeding ground for terrorists, For us, Nigeria is a fertile ground and that was how Farouk was born and bred, We are aware that Farouk Mutallab is not alone. What of the very credible story (in The Guardian, Nigeria) that two sons of two former Chief Justices of Nigeria are also involved? We are aware that the two former Chief Justices are Moslems from the North too, "

Further inquiries by The Guardian revealed that American diplomats also believe that Nigerian leaders pay only lip service to the secularity status enshrined in the country's constitution.
Those who spoke frankly on the classification of Nigeria as a "high risk" terror zone said available facts and figures of the composition of the federal government and the Nation's capital, which should be symbol of Nigeria's unity, are paradigm of how Nigeria drifts officially towards an Islamic state.

This is what he said: "The chief executives of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria, Nigerian Television Authority are all Moslems and from the North, The Chairman of Aso Radio, the General Manager of Aso Radio, the General Manager of Aso Television are all from the North and they are all Moslems, "

Our diplomatic source said, last November, 95, 700 Nigerians mostly from the North joined about two million Moslems from all over the world on pilgrimage to Mecca. Nigeria is said to produce the second largest number after Indonesia in this seasonal pilgrimage to Mecca, and some northern states in Nigeria have introduced Sharia laws in their states despite the secularity the constitution provides, "

"What is more, this is the region where they always organise processions and chants of anti-Israeli and anti-American slogans with impunity, No one checks this and many more".

so the U.S. does know that most of Nigeria's problems are caused by the north. good.  The north must go!! These people will not give up until Nigeria is an islamic state. I for one do not want to be under sharia law. The north control virtually all aspects of nigeria. All the major minister posts and government agencies are headed by northerners. Even military positions are dominated by northerners.

I don't know why some of us southerners are so stubborn. We know where most of our problems in nigeria are coming from , but we refuse to put aside tribalism, regionalism, etc  to unite and send the north packing.

One thing the ambassador failed to mention is the opening of Nigeria's first Islamic bank, which is headed by Alhaji AbdulMutallab,  under the CBN gov.  Sanusi . So the north has an agenda and we southerners are letting them execute it.

I am getting fed up with the nonsense that comes from the north.  If they had not been a backward force on Nigeria, I'm sure at least the southern part would be at least as advanced and industrialized as South Africa.  angry

Stupid is the word.
More alarming is the action of many stupidly passive christians all over the country, especially the case of the middle belters from Benue/Plataeu/Nassarawa makes my heart bleed.

Another confused and irrational self promoting naija person. Why not just address the issue without launching an unnecessary attack on America. You're either so self-centered, or you just don't understand what the issue is here.

Is it not stunning how america predicted nigeria's break up in 2015 and all recent events are indicating the high probability?maybe their intelligence is too advanced to discover events ahead of time.why our sss dey sleep?

kudos beaf, keep up the good work, scales are slowly falling off eyes, naive one nigeria fans are slowly getting to know the real mission of this jihadist. clearly the war on terror will focus on nigeria very soon, the drones are on their way. ha ha .
Re: Us Ambassadors - Nigeria Becoming An Islamic State by One11: 11:20pm On Jan 18, 2010
Obviously there is no way that you(general) can predict the break up of a country unless you have a hand or will have a hand in it. Not possible. Nigerian government is aware of whats going on but they are to stuck on themselves to care. If they break up nigeria and use "islamic terrorist harborers" fine. They dont do anything to keep innocent people from being killed in the North so the U.S. is welcome to come in and divide the country.More people can keep their lives. Its funny how southern governors can give immediate protection at the drop of a dime to Northerners but Northern governors dont and dont care to

How can you accuse me of self-centeredness when I was supporting my homeland whilst you're supporting a foreign country.
Abi u be American? If you're American what the fukk are you doing in a Nigerian forum? Try American forums and see how many times they remind you of your "Niggerness".
