The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, says the Nigerian government’s target of providing 10,000MW of electricity by 2019 is still achievable.
‎According to a statement by the power ministry, Mr. Fashola said this while fielding questions on a programme on Wednesday, adding that the target could still be realised in spite of the current challenges facing the power sector.
The former Lagos State governor added that all the measures put in place in the Power Sector Recovery Programme by the present administration were geared towards actualising government’s objective of achieving incremental, steady and uninterrupted power supply to Nigerians.
While recalling that the amount of power available on the grid on May 29, 2015, the day President Buhari took office, was 2,690MW, the minister pointed out that on May 29, 2017, the power on grid was 4,014MW.
He explained further that on February 10 2016, for the first time in the history of electricity generation in Nigeria, the nation attained 5,074MW.
Mr. Fashola, however, said that the supply went down soon after as the sector experienced 16 consecutive attacks on gas pipelines, which crippled major gas supply lines such as the Escravos Lagos pipeline.
The Escravos pipeline is however still out, the minister said.

Sir . producing 10,000 MW can be achieved even in 6 months ...we have the capacity to generate 12000mw as we speak ...

The main issue is gas supply ..can't we use roads instead of pipeline till we steablise the Niger delta ...and all power plants show have gas reserves of one to 6 months so that pipeline blowing won't affect them much

The main issue is however transmission... What are we talking about that ....can our grid handle 10000mw ??

Distribution too is a problem ...left for me ..reverse the stupid privatization and run it as PPP using Nlng format ...a know private company run it while fg ownes 60% ...

But ultimately we need cash ...which we don't have access to ...taxing all Nigerians 15,000 per month averagely based on income and spending ( likes #50 per beer ,#20 per litre of petrol ,#50 per litre of diesel, 50% tax on all imported generators ,extra 10% tax on all imported cars ,etc ) we cab raise over 25 trillion per year ...

With 25 trillion per year 100k minimum wage won't be a problem ,ASUU 200bn can be increased to even 2 trillion, roads needs only 500bn per year to maintained ...power can get 5 trillion its needs to achieve this

And trust me this will kill tribalism as all man will look for who to vote that will use his money best to his benefits
