Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by Nobody: 12:06pm On Jan 19, 2010
Shouldn't you or sister be thinking of how to better what she is good at or better still what she has real interest in??

If future monetary/financial gains is the determining factor then it is only a matter of time before she get bored or losses interest.
Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by henryhemon(m): 12:12pm On Jan 19, 2010
It depends on what she wants to achieve in life, for some folks it may be Computing & information for some business management will do.But for me i rather enroll for the 2 great courses.
Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by Katsumoto: 12:36pm On Jan 19, 2010
You can not make a long term decision based on a short-term strategy. Where does your sister see herself in 5 years time, in 10 years, etc? Is she always going to be interested in technical stuff?, does she have a flair for leadership? She may need to do both courses at the end of the day. Maybe Computing & Information System as a first degree and a business related masters degree later on.
Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by Nobody: 1:12pm On Jan 19, 2010
It depends on her interest of study.

But in Nigeria? I think she should go for Business Management, that will better her career cos I think this is the perfect & most suitable job for a lady. If she's smart and intelligent, she might be opportuned to management one of the big companies:: what do you think?

Computing & Information system: Does she have the zeal to become a guru & compete with the wizkid out there? She needs to ask herself this Q.

Based on my own perspective

She should go for[b] BUSINESS MANAGEMENT[/b]

BM simply because with IS she will most probably need to update her self constatntly as technology world evolves.
Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by KMTee(f): 1:48pm On Jan 19, 2010
Business management is a good course for a lady and it is easy to comprehend,
In Nigerian companies today, they would prefer employ a male graduate from IT to a female
graduate of the same course, Anyway, the choice is hers not yours.

Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by otukpo(f): 2:20pm On Jan 19, 2010
Both are very good.
Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by mytdops: 2:50pm On Jan 19, 2010
This is highly depended on your sister's age. If she is below 30 then she should go for the CIS as she needs to specialise in something before she does Business Management. And from you post i am think she has a computing background, so it may be easier for her to couple CIS with some industry certification as 9ja is mainly about certifications.

If over 30, then she needs to package her working experience field and go for the Business Management and in her CV claim she is a Business Analyst with a background in IT (?) or the her background. A certification like Prince2 can really be helpful also.

By the way, why Business Management and not something along the lines of Economics, Insurance or Finance?
Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by savaben: 3:35pm On Jan 19, 2010

Hehehehehe, I aint no carrer consultant but i work in academia. The best way to get certified in 9ja is via self study. You need to look around for the right materials physically or via the internet. You can also join forums dedicated to students studying for your exact certification online and share ideas. Also if you are in IT certs don't forget to practice braindumps as without it you will never pass the certs but also dont depend solely on it as you may need to prove your skill during an interview. Once you are ready there loads of testing sites in Nigeria, you just walk in or pre book the exam and go do it. Thats it.

@Suhayli, I dont really get your post.  I logged in and i don't think the person that started this thread will be intrested in doing a course in Internet Explorer 7!!!  cry cry cry
Suhayli, please tell me you were just joking

On the other hand, some examples of good online training for IT certifications are

http://www.cbtnuggets.com/
http://www.trainsignal.com/

But a trip to Otigba tongue may save you from spending a fortune on these websites as long as you know what you are looking for.

For the Dumps, Testking http://www.testking.com/ is still number one for exam expo  grin grin grin

Finally, If you are very desperate (like some folks i knew that ran out of student visas and wanted to land back in Naija with a big bang!!), then Go to India!!! cheesy cheesy cheesy
Check out  http://www.koenig-solutions.com and in less than a month you have some of the most sought after certifications in IT. Most of their students are Nigerians you can check the featured students section http://www.koenig-solutions.com/training/FeaturedStudent.aspx

With the India certifications, i can not confirm that you will be a guru but in the worst case scenario, at least Glo will employ you to stare at their equipment (i have been told only expatriates are allowed to touch there grin grin) and you can start to strategise from there.

All the best
Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by MrSam3: 4:31pm On Jan 20, 2010
Let her look inward and find out what she's really interested in. The name of the course and financial gain should not becloud her or she will miss the whole thing. Area of strength and interest first, and if you are good money will naturally come to you just doing what you like most.
Best of luck, Sam.
Re: Business Management Vs Computing & Information System [poll] by alldone(m): 7:32pm On Jan 20, 2010
well both are good. What ever you study if you are good at it you can create market for yourself even though there are no market for your course.
The two courses are paramont to the growth of our nation at the moment.

so it depend on her interest and passion.
