Redoubt got its origin from French “redoute” and Italian obsolete “ridotto“, and Latin “reductus” meaning “refugee“, which in turns originated from Latin “reducere” meaning “withdraw” or “to lead back”

The b in redoubt was added in association with doubt. However, some etymologists cited that the b might have originated from a conflation with a transitive verb “redoubt” meaning “to regard with awe, dismay or dread”.
