The Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Prof. Babatunde Osotimehin, has been confirmed dead by his Family.



The report of his death was released on Monday in a statament by Dr. Babajide Osotimehi, on behalf of the family. The statement made it known that he died on Sunday.



Brief Biography


The 68-year-old was the former Provost of the College of Medicine at the University of Ibadan. He was also the Director General of National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA).


Prof. Babatunde who was born on 6th February 1949, became the CEO of UNFPA on 19th November 2010 to serve a four-year term and was re-appointed on 21st August 2014.



He attended Igbobi College between 1966 and 1971. He went further for Medical Studies in University of Ibadan and later received a doctorate in medicine from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, in 1979.
