The new vehicle assembly plant set up by Peace Mass Transit Ltd, has gone into operation.

The plant, located within the Emene, Industrial Layout Headquarters of the company has rolled out about 100 units of the improved version of the Peace Hiace brand of commuter buses.

PMT injects a minimum of 600 buses into its fleet every year and the new assembly plant is expected to augment the supply need of the company, for a start.

Toyota Hummer buses, Ugama Hiace, and the resilient Peace Hiace are some of the popular brands in the PMT fleet.

The locally assembled Peace Hiace buses have been fitted with improved features for optimum performance, safety and comfort of passengers, including rear AC, speed limiter device, T.V, Electronic Brake Device (EBD), and Automatic Brake System (ABS).

PMT Director of Operations, Dubem Ugwu, explained that, for now the transport company would buy up the entire units assembled in its local assembly plant and that the internal (PMT) demand would still outstrip the supply.

This is the first such plant by a transport company in Nigeria.

PMT injects at least 600 vehicles into its fleet every year, in a robust, unique fleet renewal programme which has seen it grow into the biggest shuttle bus company in Nigeria in the 20 years of its existence.

There are at least 2,000 PMT mini buses on Nigeria roads daily, from an active fleet of at least 4,000 buses.
100 of the newly assembled vehicles were exhibited before Journalists on thursday at an official ceremony to launch the maiden products of the assembly plant.
PMT Executive Director in charge of operation, Mr. Timothy Chidubem Ugwu, who took the visiting journalist on a guided tour of the factory, announced that the new buses would be deployed into operation shortly.

He said the buses had been “tried and tested” through rigorous quality and safety control mechanisms, and expressed the confidence that the performance would meet, and possibly surpass consumers’ expectations.
