If you thought glowing in the dark technology was only invented for T-shirts, think again. Some countries have begun making bicycle paths and lanes that become luminous when night falls so that cyclists can stay on track when they ride at night. One is a place near Lidzbark Warminski in the north of Poland.


When charged by solar energy, a synthetic material called “phosphor” gives out a blue glow on the bicycle path that can last up to 10 hours! Imagining it gets that dark by 7pm, count 10 hours ahead (until 7am) and you’ll see that the technology in fact does hold out until daybreak.

Commenting on the blue coloration of the bike path, the creators of the glowing in the dark technology, a company called TPA Sp. z o.o, explained that the luminophores or particles in the glowing path material can actually display a variety of colors but they chose the blue hue to fit in with the surrounding environment.
