Dare devil armed robbers on Tuesday stormed a Skye Bank branch directly located opposite Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State and killed four policemen.
Also, the robbers reportedly shot a yet-to-be-identified student of the university in the leg.
The student was about to withdraw money from the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in the bank when the bandits stormed the area.
However, one of the robbers was said to have been gunned down by the police. The armed men, said to have arrived the bank about 4 p.m., shot sporadically into the air to scare away residents in the area.
It was learnt that the robbers also raided two other banks – First Bank and Sterling Bank – adjourning Skye Bank.
The policemen attached to the banks reportedly engaged the robbers in a shootout.
The raids caused confusion in the area as the people around the banks ran helterskelter. It also obstructed the free flow of vehicles in the area.
Meanwhile, the injured student was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the town for medical attention.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr. Gboyega Aderoju, told journalists that the robbers tried to enter the university when they first stormed the bank.
But confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said the police would soon fish out the robbers.
Odoro, who said that the state Police Commissioner, Adeoye Olafimihan, was still at the scene of the incident as at the time of filing this report, did not speak on whether policemen were killed or not.
