Many stories of heroes are left untold,many people do the extraordinary yet they remain relatively unknown.Many organizations and groups exist some for profit,some for socials,some for the spiritual and others for the development of academic giants. Over the years, the best from various secondary schools in Nigeria have made studying medicine their prime target,eventually some make it into the medical school and there the real struggle begins,a typical medical students class consists of students whose IQ are in the upper limits of the society,many with amazing abilities ranging from those with eidetic memories,to those who can finish a thousand page textbook in a matter of few hours tho those with great oratory prowess and those who never comes to class yet keeps spanking the marks.However am writing about another group of medical students in arguably the best University in Nigeria who have made themselves distinct by going beyond the classroom to establish themselves as Nigeria's best and brightest...I hereby introduce the IFE MEDICAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION QUIZ CLUB(IFUMSA QUIZ CLUB)
THE PAST:
The club have over the years proven to be the best in Nigeria evidenced by their performances in various inter-medical schools competition in Nigeria,the club can boast of numerous alumni who are consultants in various fields of medicine and surgery both within and outside the country.In the last three years,they have been among the top three in 80% competitions they have been to. Some of their best performances includes but not limited to
1.Third position at the Emeritus Prof.O.O Akinkugbe(CON) biennial inter-medical schools competition at UCH in 2015
2. Second Position, Prof. Babatunde Solagberu intercollegiate competition at Lagos state college of medicine in 2015
3.First Position Professor Odesanmi intercollegiate competition at Obafemi Awolowo University in 2016
4.First Position Prof.Ojuawo intercollegiate competition at University of Ilorin in 2016
THE PRESENT:
The club has continued to grow in leaps and bounds,some of their more recent performances are
1.Second position,Intercollegiate competition at Olabsisi Onabanjo University in 2016
2.Second position,intercollegiate competition at Backbock university in 2016
3. First Position at the intercollegiate competition at Bowen in 2017
4. Final of the Emeritus Prof.O.O Akinkugbe(CON) biennial inter-medical schools competition at UCH in 2017,the final will be contested between OAU and UI later this year.
THE FUTURE:
Due to their excellent performances at various national competitions,the club has been invited to participate in the international contest of medical knowledge(CICOM) 2017 in Mexico in November however the participation of this great club is threatened by lack of funds.The members of the club are ready to make the country proud at the international stage,and they have reached out to various prominent individuals,the ministry of health,ministry of works,power and housing,Ministry of Education,NNPC,PTDF via their websites and emails,however no response has been received so far probably because most emails soliciting for funds are scams and people tend not to reply.
In conclusion,I will call on all Nigerians to watch out in the next few months, IFUMSA quiz club will take the world by storm.Wishper it albeit quietly a Nigerian University will be the best medical school in the world... hopefully someone will sponsor the trip to Mexico.
