Expulsion of the Igbos from Nigeria vis-à-vis the expulsion of Singaporeans from Malaysia!!!
The South Asian nation Singapore has its history raging from about the third century AD. We are not going into all that. We want to concentrate our research from the time the nation got its independence from Britain till the time she celebrated her fifty years of independence in 2015.
She got her independence from Britain on July 9 1963. On the same day, it signed the Malaysia Agreement with Malaya and other colonies to form the Federation of Malaysia. She saw this move for merger with Malaya as a breakthrough. On 16 September 1963, the Merger took place and the Federation of Malaysia was formed. How did it go with Singapore?

The leaders of the People’s Action Party including Lee and Goh were convinced that the future of Singapore depended on its union with Malaya to form Malaysia. Unfortunately, this unholy union with Malaya, North Borneo and Sarawak was rocky from day one. There were racial tensions between Malaya and Singapore. For instance, the 1964 race riot resulted in the death of many Singaporeans.
As if not enough, most of the federal policies were made to favour Malaya as against Singapore. For instance, following article 153 of Malaysian Constitution, there were special privileges to Malays as against Singaporeans. There were many financial and economic benefits given to Malays as against Singaporeans. It could be seen that the dream of the leaders of the People’s Action Party were not realized. With this situation, what happened next?
Can Nigerians drive home anything so far from this history? The merger was rocky from day one. Nigeria was also rocky from day one. Can any person authentically deny this? There were racial tensions between Malaya and Singapore. In Nigeria, there has been from the beginning, ethnic tensions that have led to many deaths even as at now. There were privileges for some in that union, in accordance with the National Constitution while others were denied the same privileges. In Nigeria, this is the order of the day. Some are First Class Citizens while others are third class citizens under the same constitution. Is this new to any Nigerian?
After serious tensions between Singapore and Malaya with all the maltreatments meted against Singapore, she was expelled from Malaysia. This took place on the morning of 9th August 1965. On that fateful day, the parliament of Malaysia voted 260-0 in favour of a constitutional amendment that saw to the expulsion of Singapore from Malaysia to avoid further bloodshed. How did the leaders of People’s Action Party take this expulsion? We shall see!
History has it that seeing no alternative to avoid further bloodshed, Singapore was expelled from Malaya. Rather than being a thing of joy, history has it that a tearful Lee Kuan Yew made a televised press conference announcing that Singapore has become a Sovereign State. He shed tears not out of joy but out of desperation. In his own words, “for me, it is a moment of anguish. All my life, my whole adult life, I have believed in merger and unity of the two territories." He thought that their destiny was in Malaysia and have been expelled from Malaysia he shed tears of sorrow.
Nigeria has much to learn from this history. To avoid further bloodshed, Singapore was expelled. In Nigeria to save the lives of many citizens, something needs to be done. Enough blood has been shed due to ethnic conflicts. Do we need outsiders to tell us to think twice or to go our different ways in order to prevent further bloodshed?
Singapore is today a great nation having gone away from Malaysia. In Nigeria, rather than many states being together, fighting one another, destroying one another, it may be better for the different parts to find their way and look for their destiny. It is either the country is restructured or let the different parts find their way in order to make a meaningful development.

Being in Nigeria is one of the best things because Nigeria is a big country but being in this type of Nigeria today is a hell. Nobody can tolerate it. Few blind cliques treat others as slaves.

Singapore was expelled constitutionally. Malaysia federation amended its constitution that previously had no secession clause to allow the expulsion of Singapore.

The North had not expelled the Igbo, what they did is eat their cake and still have it.

The Northern controlled Nigeria still lays claim to political control of Igboland, while the Northern commoners had expelled Igbos resident in the North.
What this means is that Igbos had been rendered foreigners in a countrl that have refused to grant Igbos their secession demand.

Equivalence of what Malaysia did to Singapore would be the Northern controlled Nigerian Senate and house of rep, convening an emergency meeting where they would insert secession clause into the Nigerian constitution and immediately act on it by constitutionally expelling Igbos from the Nigerian federation through an open televised broadcast, given by the president, flanked by the Senate president.

This has not happened, instead we heard the NASS insisting that the union of Nigeria is not negotiatble.

Also note that Malaysia didn't threaten Singaporeans resident in Malaysia with forceful eviction and confiscation of their investments.

Let no one come and be comparing apples and oranges here. Singapore situation is at parallel with Biafran condition today.

Why I hate all these secessionists talk is because you guys are selfish. You want to have Biafra so that you can enjoy our oil and other resources alone. I am not happy at all cos of all these. You want to leave us the Yorubas with the Hausa/Fulanis alone so that they can deal with us anyhow they like and even install their emirs in Ile ife and Lagos. Seriously, it is not fair oo.

For the minister of information to say that Restructuring is not the priority of this administration in the country now means that he is very far from reality and should not be occupying the position he is holding now!!!

Politicians from Northern Nigeria have being in power since independence since Britain truncated the country's independence and gave power to the north.
