Android Police recently discovered a change in Google Play store’s developer console that permits app developers to pick whether their apps are available to rooted users in the Play Store.

The new device catalog phase of the console includes an option referred to as “SafetyNet exclusion,” which can be used to prevent devices that fail integrity tests or the ones which can be uncertified with the aid of Google from downloading a selected app: among these would be rooted devices and those running custom ROMs.

This discovery follows the latest move by Netflix to block rooted users from downloading the app, motive? yet to be known.

The argument is that Google desires to keep security for developers and users and that will come at the price of a few users. an awesome example is whilst Google made changes to the way screen overlays work meaning apps that would previously draw on pinnacle of the display such as blue light filtering apps might no longer feature.

The changes to Google Play store might deter the small number of individuals who nevertheless root their devices from rooting however then again if you’re a rooted user, you know a way to install third party apps.

However, this may be a hassle if developers start stopping custom ROM users from installing their apps from Google Play, due to the fact in an effort to be the start of the rise of third-party app stores.
