There is no doubt as to whether Globacom has been exceptional as a corporate promoter of entertainment in Nigeria. With the ongoing mega shows, called the Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour and the Glo Laffta Fest comedy show, Glo is taking Nigeria to the zenith of entertainment.

To think that Glo has consistently assembled A-list Nigerian artists to perform in shows which Nigerian customers can attend free- of- charge is really amazing. If you have attended any of these shows, you will agree with me that the experience is electrical and glamorous.

[b]But can the same be said about their core services?

The last time I checked, Glo is not registered as an entertainment company. Not even as a tourist or sporting firm. Glo business is purely to deliver telecommunication services. And that should define their scorecard.

Sadly, gauging the pulse of the Nigerian subscribers, Glo has not lived up to expectations in recent times. Over the past months, their internet and call services have continued to degenerate. Some visibly dissatisfied customers who commented on our Hub, noted that Glo services have worsened over time with Glo failing to realize their weakness.

Nigerians are particular about the poor data services because Glo had deployed Fibre Optics and Microwave network infrastructures covering almost the entire country.

With the deployment of these facilities, Nigerian customers had hoped that a robust and error/redundancy free network will be achieved.

“Their internet hardly connects, and when it does most of the times it is slow.”

This sentence aptly summarizes the experience of the average Glo data subscriber that we interviewed.

What Glo must now do

By now, Glo should become desperate to give their Nigerian subscribers something to cheer about their core services outside the entertainment jamboree.

In a statement made while promoting this year’s nationwide music fiesta, GLO said; “we are running the spectacular shows as a way of saying thank you to our teeming subscribers across the country for their loyalty, support and abiding faith in the Glo brand over the years.”

Is there any better way to appreciate a customer, than rendering quality service delivery? Yes, the spectacular shows are good, but they are not as important as quality call and data services. That is what Glo was made for. And that is what Nigerians demand.

I know Nigerian customers will never trade quality services for these free nationwide mega music concerts.
