Asking Igbos To ''Return Home'' Shows Economic Illiteracy! by Rossikki: 9:16pm On Jun 11, 2017
One has been reading of late, comments made by some prominent Igbos to the effect that Igbos should ''return home'', following the recent declaration by Arewa youths or whomever.

Such calls have been made, predictably, by those Igbos who do not earn their living in the north etc. Actors like Bob-Manuel Udokwu. Pampered people who can barely relate to the circumstances of the average Igbo trader working in Kano.

See, that guy is in Kano for a reason. There is an Igbo saying, that a toad does not run around in the daytime for nothing. Something must be after its life.

That guy would much prefer to live and work in his eastern homeland. The reason he doesn't is because it is UNECONOMICAL to do so, in comparison to other parts of the country.

The truth is that the south-east has market saturation. The average Igbo trader will need to work 5 times harder in his homeland to earn what he earns in Kano.

Or Sokoto.

Or Ibadan.

Or Bauchi.

Or Ilorin.

Or Lagos.

Those areas are like living goldmines for Igbo entrepreneurs.

The villages and cities of Igboland are bulging with the mansions and edifices derived from working in those places.

Thus, asking Igbos to ''return home'', is like asking them to commit suicide. It is just as silly as the 'Biafra' movement itself.

Both uneconomical, both lacking in vision or analysis, and both utterly contemptuous of the overriding effects of their ethnic fanaticism on the economic well-being of their 'beloved' people.

So are you saying that all other tribes in Nigeria are "economic illiterates" for not investing much outside their various regions the way igbos generally do?

And again:

- How do igbos' investments in other regions help the IGR and GDP of Igboland?
- How does investing outside igboland increase employment rate in igboland?
- how do the fancy country homes in igboland stimulate year-round economic activities in the region?

I need your prompt answers Mr. Economic Professor.

It seems you did not study economics in school

Recession is low economic activities as a result of less cash in the pocket

When millions of people leave a region in 3months, economic activities will decline leading to lesser money in the pockets of the indigenous people

Less tenants
Less commuters
Less students
Less Buyers
Less customers

Sellers will be looking for Buyers

But asking them to leave is ECONOMIC WHAT?. Someone asked your brother to leave his house otherwise he will kill him or injure him and you as a brother tell your not to go leave. Its obvious you want that your brother dead to inherit his wife.

So many Business owned by Northerners will suffer a decline in the number of their customers

More than 50% of their customers mainly Southern people will no longer be around to buy their goods and services

The Northerners will then be forced to migrate Southward for new customer base

Dont mind that almajiri begging Igbos to remain in the north with style. The Igbos may lose now, but in the medium and long term, the north will be the ultimate loser. I dont think any Igbo man in his right senses will buy land, build house, plaza or factory in the north now. So, the ultimatum on Igbos to leave the north is good for the economy of the East. Others that dont want to return can go to places like Niger, Chad, Mali these places are just like north too!

Kai! even the Igbos that have millions living outside their regions and Nigeria still dominate their region and you are here talking about the North. you should be more worried about the se because all of the traders will have to look for something new because there would be too much competition and excessive supply over demand

The Ibos want Biafra
The North wants Ibo's exit
The Yorubas want Ibo's exit
The Ibos are saying "we have investments in your areas and cannot leave them"
And the fight is being cooked.

Amongst all these, the President is in London
Governors are sharing bailout funds
Workers salaries are not paid
Government officials have their children schooling abroad
Ministers and senators are looting

The poor Hausa man is riding Okada
The poor Ibo man is riding Okada
The poor Yoruba man is riding Okada

The poor Hausa man sleeps under the bridge as Alamajiri
The poor Yoruba man sleeps under the bridge as Alaye
The poor Ibo man sleeps under the bridge as agbero

It is pertinent to note that the poor from all ethnic groups in Nigeria have everything in common and so is the rich.

Do not allow the agitation of an Ibo man who lives in UK or USA for Biafra cause the killing of the Ibo man in Adamawa. The rich hate us that much.
Do not allow the Alhaji whose children are living abroad to persuade you to go and start killing on the street of Kaduna.

The problem in the country is not the agitation of any ethnic group but the unity of the elite and the disunity of the masses.

How many times have you taken your agitation to question your local government Chairmen?

Why have you not asked your Governors through agitation how they spent bailout fund?

Why have you not agitated against that government official whose mansions you go to beg for help?

Sad to note;
All the Governors love themselves
All the past Presidents love themselves
All the senators love themselves
All the top government officials love themselves
All the looters love themselves

Why can't you and I love ourselves?
Why cant we combine efforts and fight them?
Why do we fight ourselves?
Why do we allow them the freedom we don't have?

Remember; a good Nigeria is better than a good Arewa, Oduduwa or Biafra.

That tells me you have not been to Nnewi lately.
If you have, you will find out that the population of the town had exploded.
What they lack is road network and other associated Government infrastructure.
Trafffic is a nightmare driving around Nnewi. We talking about hours from point to point B.
To mitigate against the problem caused by these population explosion, the following roads are overdue due for dualization
Nnewi - Oba - Onitsha road
Nnewi - Ozubulu road
Nnewi - Nnobi road, etc

Orlu is not grouped with those towns you mentioned, if you know Orlu well.

Orlu is approaching one million population, and is a most expansive city that comprises many nearby local govt areas with the highest population density - aside the major cities in West Africa.

There is a growing large number of northerners these days in Orlu, they have opened a new Hausa market behind the Sam Okwaraji Stadium.

Common sense is: if Igbos insist and stay in the north against the ultimatum given by northern Youths, and katakata bursts, that shall be an excuse for northern soldiers who now control the armed forces to do military coup and take over government.

During the confusion of coup, those Igbos in the north can also be attacked as well.

When northern soldiers take over government, we are back to square one.

So Bob Manuel Udokwu knew what he was saying.
