Protest In Warri Over Yar’Adua Written by Sylvester Idowu Economic activities were temporarily paralysed in the cities of Warri and Effurun on Friday as protesters marched on major roads against the continued refusal of President Umaru Yar’Adua to hand over to his deputy, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. Shops, earlier opened, were hurriedly closed by operators who joined in solidarity with others to protest the lack of leadership in the nation for the past 60 days. Okada operators drove around to display their support for the rally. The protest, organised by the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Warri chapter and in collaboration with other human right groups, was embraced by the people of the town. The peaceful protest started from the Enerhen Junction, Effurun, as early as 11.30 a.m and was led by chairman of CDHR, Mr. Rufus Olarenwaju, Comrade Sunny Enenuvwedia, national vice president and Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi, immediate past state chairman. The placard-carrying- protesters sang solidarity songs as they marched along the Warri/Sapele road which led to traffic hold-up. Mr. Ikimi, who spoke on behalf of the committee, told onlookers that “we are tired of an offshore president; we want Goodluck Jonathan to take over. Good Nigerians, let’s join hands to push the constitution suppressors away.” “Let the Senate take action now, our right is our right, let’s stand up to fight this injustice, fellow compatriots, we want to know where Yar’Adua is now, we demand immediate answer,” he added. http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/293-protest-in-warri-over-yaradua.html |

looks like the wave up protesting is starting to spread to other parts of country. I really think all the various protesters around country should merge and lead a mega protest. |

trueword: Protest is like a virus which must infect the Nigerian people. I guess people are beginning to understand the fact that they actually do have a say in matters rather than the docile attitude. Pressure from many angles is piled on the government to do the right thing just hope it can sustained all the way until we rid the nation of bad governance |

a mega protest would remove Yaradua in less than 48 hours but will nigerians ever stand together? |

Nonsense!! it's too late to protest. We had the opportunity to protest when OBJ imposed Yar'adua on Nigerians but we kept mute and accepted it like that. Why the protest now? |

zebra:Will you stop spitting thrash out! @ post whatever docility the 9ja people had before is over now. I pray the Warri protest is not ethnic induced i.e. a south south slant to it. This is not just about Jonathan taking over from Yar'adua for he's [Jonathan] part of the corrupt leaders that have held us by the jugular,it's about respecting the constitution no matter how flawed it is. Once that is done, the quest for good governance and electoral reform will kick in as 9ja people must and will take their destiny in their hands. |
