" A NAIRALANDER RAMADAN MESSAGE TO PMB"-Uthman Qasim.

When the safety of lives and properties, endeavours and optimism, benefits and incentives are not guaranteed in any society, the imminent reflection iS chaos in social settings, settlements, state of reasoning and natural atmosphere. Nigerians have once in the past enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere of nature; good family settings; communal inter-relationship, and hope for the unborn generations. However, the aforementioned seem to have ceased in the present day Nigerian state. Insecurity in families, communities and the country as a whole, most not be seen as a divine phenomenon but rather a human fetched catastrophe. The mutual cheat in families, inter-communal clashes; herdsmen invasions; street violence; cultism; territorial invasions and other social vices in Nigeria which amount to general insecurity of affairs, call for reasonable attention. The entropy which has led to denting our image as a nation, is also in many capacities, jeopardizing the promising future of our younger generation.
Furthermore, poverty and high cost of living have contributed immensely to the emergence of insecurity in the country as quality education cannot be accessed by citizens who can hardly afford two square meal a day. These citizens would either take to the street as beggars or use violence as a means of sustaining their living. Able youths go into thuggery because they lack something good doing. To this effect, the society is characterized with all forms of social violence. Poverty which makes most parents to be negligence of their duties as parents, also sees to the increasing rate of way-wards in the society.
In addition, philistine of academic grades over competence forces competent ones into joining criminal groups. Group members with good tactics of operation are not the best graduates but rather the abandoned talents. While government efforts have been more criticized than appreciated, the society also have not focus much in the proper upbringing of her children.
Therefore, effort must be re-directed to entrepreneurship as it paves way to curbing the menace of insecurity in different ramifications. Literates and illiterates can be gainfully employed if they have entrepreneurial skills supported by the government. The richest people in the society are not the government employees but rather those who take to what they can do for themselves and the society because competence pays than academic credentials as the good society appreciate result than process. Online businesses must be encouraged and legalized as it is a panacea to jobless status of some.
As a matter of urgency, basic and post basic schools’ curriculum should include entrepreneurial subjects to enhance creativity and self-reliance potentials in students at these levels. More vocational centers should be established with full and relevant equipment by the government and non-governmental organization. Parents must encourage their children into skills acquisition as it is paramount to national development. Attitudinal change towards ‘certificate’ and competence is required as we encourage education and passion pursuit.
