Breaking News: Labour Shot Down Schools In Calabar.

Civil servants in Cross River have commenced the stay at home order by the Organised Labour until the state government implements all the resolutions signed few weeks ago.

All public and private schools were picketed by labour to enforce the order.

Students were seen trekking back home in their numbers in major streets in Calabar.

Civil servants obeyed the stay at home order as the new and old secretariats were sealed by the organised labour.

The New Nigerian Online investigation showed that the action had paralysed government activities as both junior and senior civil servants were not seen in their offices as early as 7.30 to 8 am this morning.

It would be recalled that government signed a 12-point resolution to end an earlier industrial action strike called by the Organised Labour in the state.

It was resolved in that meeting which was attended by governor Ben Ayade and leaders of the Organised Labour among others that ” promotion exercise of deserving civil/public servants shall resume forthwith and that letters be released while financial implications will be worked out by the Head of Service and Commissioner for Finance for governor’s consideration”.

Also, “every aspect of Payroll Consultancy should be domiciled in Cross River including the servers and the personnel while the Commissioner for Finance, Accountant General and Labour are to investigate the actual deductions from salaries of staff and stop same if confirmed”.

It said that the Report of Verification and Audit exercise by the Payroll Consultant shall be made available to Labour by the Commissioner for Finance.

Also the resolution said that “full payment of outstanding gratuity of retirees in the state civil/public service for the period June – December, 2013 shall be paid while outstanding gratuities for the year 2014 is to be computed for consideration.

The meeting further resolved that payment of monthly imprest to MDAs should be released 1st week of every month while that of May, 2017 is to be paid immediately.

Also it said that “full payment of salaries of newly appointed Permanent Secretaries should take effect from June, 2017 while the arrears should be worked out for payment and appointment letters released forthwith”.

Labour, it said, is directed to produce a List of all unpaid staff of LGAs and primary school teachers to government through the Commissioner for Finance for verification and payment while check-off dues to Unions should be paid to beneficiaries immediately after payment of monthly salaries.

It was also resolved that.”no worker shall be victimized for his or her role in the planned industrial action”.

Meanwhile, the organised labour has called for the removal of the Secretary to the state government Barrister Tina Agbor, from office.

It described her inability to carry out the directives of His Excellency as a mark of “incompetence”.

“She is a cog in the progress of all civil servants in the state, it added”.

Earlier, the state chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Pastor John Ushie, said the stay at home action is indefinite pending when the state government will commence the implementation of the 12-point resolutions.
