*Senate Gets Commendation on Motion Seeking to Allow treatment for Gunshot Victims Without Police Report*

The Nigerian Senate under the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki has received commendations from Nigerians over the motion adopted which seeks to compel hospitals to treat and provide medical care to gunshot victims without necessarily obtaining a police report.

While speaking on the reasons for raising this Motion in an interview with #SenateTV Senator Monsurat Sunmonu who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs disclosed that the debate on whether a gunshot victim has committed a crime or not before being admitted for treatment should not arise.

She stated further that failure to treat gunshot victims at first call would amount to needless waste of lives and recovery of useful statement that could eventually aid the Police in carrying out a thorough investigation.

“With this government of change, I believe things needs to change for the better, Gunshot victims have the rights to be treated, have we established that the victim has done something wrong that deserves to be shot?, If not , we kill innocent people” Senator Monsurat said.

Commending the Senate for tinkering with this important piece of legislation to save victims lives; Facebook users and followers of the Nigerian Senate expressed their views on the adoption of this laudable Motion.

Ceejay Nelson Amankwe said “Very Good!. I have been talking about this for so long, many people have lost their life because of this police nonsense report. The best thing is to treat the person and while treating the person call police to come over that hospital”

Femi Omsehin: “Our laws should dignify the human person before and after conviction. Our attitudes towards gun shot victims need to change”

Engr Baba Aliyu: “I really support this Motion and hope it will be considered quickly, not only gunshot “

Taiwo Ajayi: “I support the idea more also any one brought in, such victims data should be adequately taken along with his fingerprint”
