A lucrative career but these are our plights in Nigeria :


In Nigeria,Do you know A Singapore-flagged ship doesn't accept Nigerian COC but they accept Ghanaian COC?

Do you know in some companies working in Nigeria,A Nigerian can never be made the Captain or Chief Engineer even when He has the necessary qualifications and experience?

Do you know many Nigerians are racially abused by the so-called Expatriates in their own fatherland?

Do you know 80% of the so-called expatriates doesn't have work permit?

Solution to Our Maritime Problem

1. The DG of NIMASA must be someone with over 25years experience in the maritime sector.

2. 70% of crew onboard any ship working in our territorial waters must be Nigerians

3. Any Nigerian racially abused by an foreigner when reported must be thoroughly investigated and justice must not be savaged.

4. Our Maritime Courses must be probably monitored , it should be supervised by relevant authorities and taught by Professionals.
5. There must be a standard salary scale for seafarers as well as pension scheme and life assurance.

6. Cabotage law must be enforced and the clause *waiver* must be removed to make it more effective.

7. Quacks must be reduced to the minimum and NIMASA should be available when their help is needed.
