Dr. Edward Imo is good to be appointed Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Rivers State.

THE MAN: DR. EDWARD IMO

Edward Egbo Imo is a native of Eyekele Community of Ehuda Clan of Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality in Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Performance Theory and Criticism of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, University of Port Harcourt where he also lectures till date.


DR EDWARD IMO

Edwardson has published several academic papers on indigenous African theatre performances in both local and international journals. He currently teaches Nigerian Theatre and Drama, Nigerian Comedy and Theatre of the Absurd. He has also supervised over twenty undergraduate projects on indigenous cultures of the Niger Delta with emphasis on festivals and cultures in Rivers State.


His creative works include the stage adaptation of Elechi Amadi's novels The Concubine and The Great Ponds. The Concubine as adapted by Dr Edward Imo was staged in the just concluded Rivers@50. The same Dr Edward played the character of Alabo Cookey GAM in the stage production of Minimah's King Jaja during the Rivers@50 celebration. At the moment , Dr Edward is also hosting and presenting Ulodhi Unoma, an indigenous Ekpeye weekly radio programme every Friday by 7:30pm with Ray Power 106.5.


He has also written other plays both published and unpublished. He also wrote the television series titled Twist of Fate that graced the screen of AIT between 2005 and 2009.
Dr Edward is a renown comedian and Master of Ceremonies. His latest comedy in Ekpeye language is currently in a Compact Disc under the title "Uchikidhi Umu". The name of the album has been associated with him as most Ekpeye people know him by the name Uchikidhi Umu.

He is a specialist in anchoring traditional marriages because of his deep rootedness in Ekpeye and Rivers socio-cultural heritages.
Dr Edwardson is happily married to Madonna, a proud daughter of Ekpeye and Rivers State. The marriage is blessed with an adorable daughter Chinujinime and a host of other expectant children.
