Yeah, cool device. But how much impact will it have on the technology world? Will it have as much 'weight' as the ipod? or will it die a natural death?

This is probably one of those gadgets you get not because you need it but to show people you have it.
If you've got Ipod+Macbook+Iphone then i really dont know why you'll want to get this ,except it looking pretty in your house. I can so imagine a lady's reaction when she asks u - 'pls can i use your laptop i want to check my mail ' and u hand her your iPad
