Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is reportedly in line to take on his first job as a manager.

The former Chelsea, Manchester City and England midfielder is now the favourite to become the new manager of English football League One club Oxford United.

Since retiring on the 2nd of February 2017, after a spell in the US with New York City, Lampard returned to Chelsea to work on his coaching and his first managerial job may not be too far away, as he is set to move straight into management after becoming Oxford’s top choice to replace Michael Appleton, who is now assistant coach at Leicester, according to the Sun.

Lampard has tried punditry, television and now could be set for his first spell in management.

With Lampard lacking in managerial experience but looking for his first job in the English football third tier, this could prove an ideal opportunity for the 39-year-old.

League One would provide him with the experience of managing in a highly competitive English league and with Oxford finishing eighth last season, he could be in line to take over at one of the English divisions stronger sides.

Lampard is good friends with Oxford’s director Dave Jones, who is leading a three-man panel to find their next manager.

The other joint-favourite leading the race to be the next Oxford boss alongside Lampard is former Charlton and Huddersfield boss Chris Powell.
