The Wenner-Gren Foundation is given out scholarships to African students to study for a PhD in one of South African Universities. African students are eligible to apply for this fellowship which will be in South African university that can provide them with international-level training in anthropology (including biological anthropology and archaeology).

The major goals of the Foundation are;

· To support significant and innovative anthropological research into humanity’s biological and cultural origins, development and variation

· To foster the creation of an international community of research scholars in anthropology

· To provide leadership at the forefronts of the discipline.

Scholarship Award:

The budget for this fellowship is $17,500 to be used for travel, living expenses, tuition, student fees, insurance, books, research expenses, and any other relevant categories of expenditure while studying at the Host institution. The fellowship is renewable for up to two additional years upon successful completion of each preceding year’s study. A separate application can be made for an additional year of funding to support dissertation write-up.
