Saharareporters.

An unnamed former head of state received the tongue-lashing of his life last night from First Lady Turai Yar'Adua. The call from the First Lady came soon after the "eminent person" returned from a trip in which his group of senior Nigerians called on the Senate and the House of Representatives, and urged Yar'Adua to hand over power in the national interest. Hardly had the former Head of State finished dinner when Turai called him on the phone from Jeddah and unleashed a volley of abuses and curses on him, the only publishable one of which is "shameless old man!"

She promised that over her dead body would her sick husband ever transmit a letter to anyone to hand over power to Jonathan. She also threatened that each and everyone of the eminent persons will be dealt and that Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan would regret playing host to the former leaders who had "conspired" with him to "stampede" her husband.

It would be recalled that yesterday, the "Eminent Elders Group" was in the news for urging Yar'Adua to hand power over to the VP, according to constitutional provisions. It included former president Shehu Shagari, Ernest Shonekan, Alex Ekwueme, former Chief Justices Mohammed Uwais and Legbo Kutigi, former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. TY Danjuma, and Professor Jerry Gana.

The group announced that it had taken the common position at a meeting in Abuja that was attended by some former Presidents, Heads of State, former Chief Justices of Nigeria and elder statesmen.

Meanwhile, and as SR reported yesterday, Turai continues to work round the clock to "package" her husband and bring him home for a few days. If the plan succeeds, Yar'Adua will be held in-incommunicado while he fulfills the objectives of the trip, and then returned to Saudi Arabia. But according to medical sources in Jeddah, there is no way Yar'Adua can do anything in the next month or two, if at all.

So far, Turai has succeeded in influencing the judiciary to offer favourable rulings in cases concerning her husband's absence. Only this morning, Chief Judge Dan Abutu scandalously ruled that the constitutional provision for Yar'Adua to transmit a letter to the National Assembly when he is incapacitated is voluntary.

This is a pure character assassination.

So she called the former SFG and then SFG called Sahara reporters and narrated the verbal abuse by Turai.
Or may be Sahara reporters got the voice record from MTN etc.

In as much as people want to make issue out of the prolong absence of the President, that should be directed to the National Assembly, who are constitutionally vested with all powers to do whatever they see is necessary. This woman, have no power, and therefore, the fact that people are looking for excuses for their incapabilities and docile attitudes, do not warrant them to be written rumours as news. Freedom of speech is not freedom of lying

Can someone assemble a good team from the Nollywood industry to take a good look at this script?

It seems that some of these media outfits would make more money developing movies rather than all these baseless and "unnamed" or "a very reliable source" kind of thing.

One day they will tell us what transpired in the spiritual world or even publish the thought process of someone without the person saying or writing anything.

I pity this woman for she doesnt appear to be a good student of history. She should have learnt from Mariam Abacha's predicament after
the death of Abacha, yet Mariam didnt display the sort of arrogance she is displaying now. I have pasted two stories written by Tell Magazine
for people to truly know the kind of power she weilds in Yar Adua's government but the response had been very low but what we are seeing
now more or less confirms both stories by Tell.

You have to know that, tha publication is just a mere propaganda and nothing other than that. Nigerians are looking for someone to blame. Someone that do not have the guts to respond, or his response will not make any difference. Always. It is either the clonial masters, the Hausa Fulani, the army generals or somebody else. The Journalist of Tells and Sahara reporters are just heck on putting the blame on this woman. A woman that do not control the army, the Judiciary, the Senate or House of Reps. The woman that is somewhere taking care of her sick husband. These people should wake up and start blaming the people responsible for this. The FEC, Senators, Reps, PDP and the State Governors, who yeild influence more than the combine power of the senate and the judiciary. The FEC, to which the VP belong, had opportunity to bring Nigeria out of this mess. That council is made of Nigerians from all over the country with reputable carrier, academic background and experience that will make a lot of members of this forumn envious.

I do not support, in whatever disguise, the way our Journalist are turning this blame on this woman, who by accident, found herself on the cross-road of history. The members of the FEC, should be blamed squarely for this. The VP is a heck of useless man. I do not envisage somebody like Atiku, to be acting like he is. Jonathan is Docile, indicisve and outrightly incompetive.

you have to luv this lady turai, if she was so zealous for the well being of nigeria, that wud have made perfect sense,

it's unfortunate that her time is running out and she will be a forgotten schemer.she should be planning her exit from power and she should pray that she is spared from her sins, when power goes to jonathan.

There is an element of truth in this report. You can not just conclude that the report was cooked or framed.
Did you see the youtube-video where Mister of Foreign affairs Ojo Madueke was saying " You will see, I will catch you, come to Nigeria"

What does this woman think she is, and what does she take Nigeria? I dont bame her at all, becoz her husband is ruling a group of cowards with a less capable vice. This threat is enough for the VP to rise up and fight in challenge.

SR news can sometimes be misleading, but there's gotta be some truth in this. I think Turai, not Umaru, is power-drunk. A bad wife can only be compared to hell.

Much as I know Turai is a deluded and power-spoilt silly girl,I doubt she made that call as none of the former heads of state will allow her rant nonsense in their eyes on phone without sharply rebuking her

I learnt this selfish power-seeking and soon-to-die-in office man has emaciated more than this, such a shame the man seems not to love himself enough to quit office and go take care of his health[img][/img]

Yours is one of the more intelligent posts I’ve read in this forum.

How an ordinary spouse could be credited with such manipulative power is an indictment of the primacy of the legislature and the executive council in Nigeria. Neither the constitution nor statute provides for the spouse of the president any executive responsibility over the affairs of state. When lawmakers credit the president’s wife as the all-powerful manipulator-in-chief, they are in effect using her to sidestep their responsibility to the state.

Whatever perceived powers this woman has can be neutralized by a single stroke of legislative resolution that temporarily strips the president of power until he can produce his physical self and evidence of fitness to resume his duties as president. Obviously, the legislators are too spineless undertake any such resolution.

The problem with the current state of affairs in Nigeria is not Turai. The problem with Nigeria is the cultural disregard for the supremacy of the institution over the individual. As Obama said during his trip to Ghana last year, “Africa does not need strongmen; Africa needs strong institutions.”

shocked If that's true won't be much of a surprise as Chief Maduekwe was personally involved in the drafting of the rubbish constitution as he always seems eager to let us know. Considering he's a joker, I can imagine the rest of the bunch that put it together to be similar. Hope the military don't come back to amend the constitution. cry
