Now that technology is getting too powerful, one can only imagine what the next generation of mobile devices will look like in the next few years. The mobile work station devices of today have surpassed the desktop units of only a few years ago. Notebooks and tablets already offer very convenient computing solutions and now you can roll it.

Ever seen something like a roll up laptop or touchscreen which can be rolled? This is not just an amazing concept computer that rolls up for easy travel but gives you everything a laptop offers. Full screen, docking base, ports etc. it’s all rolled into one easy carry package.

It rolls out into a full size touch screen or laptop set-up. It has its own docking base with webcam, speaker, power supply and touch screen with keyboard. Sure the architect and designers will love its editing features for your pictures, slim and sleek feel, and the comfort of charging your device wirelessly.

These amazing devices have been around for a few years, but still a concept as we are yet to see the actual product. This awesome concept would be great for people on the go, travelers, students or anyone and would go over well in the market if they could just get enough funding to bring it to life.

Rolltop is not a "virtual and futuristic" gadget, existing only on the screen of your computer as in the most of similar concepts and visions, according to the German team at design firm , Orkin. Most of the existing design concepts usually have been developed without any deep technologic and ergonomic elaboration and often could be difficult or even impossible realized. From the beginning Rolltop has been developed as a real future product.

During its development a lot of different scenarios, e.g. usability, functionality etc, were simulated. Moreover, the manufacturers have included in Rolltop the best worldwide ergonomic, mechanic and electronic practices.

This portable computer is designed for everyone, who would like to have a gadget, which, from an aesthetic standpoint alone, certainly hits the mark.

By virtue of the Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) -display technology and a multitouchscreen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor due to the support attached to the back of the screen.

The Rolltop computer utilizes a flexible OLED display, so it is able to physically “roll-up.” The computer can fold part-way to create a classic laptop shape with a 13-inch display and touchscreen keyboard. Or it can be fully flattened out to create a 17-inch display (or perhaps, tablet computer).

The computer bends at defined points, meaning the motherboard and other electro-organs remain in static containers inside the machine. It would still necessitate an external speaker/power source to connect to the display.

Nearly all the major manufacturers (and several smaller players) are working on developing computers and displays in Fruit Roll Up form. For those looking for tangible (non-animated) example of bendy displays, Sony has their flexible full-color display too.

Samsung also unveiled a prototype for their full color, and quite bendable AMOLED display, which allowed for a WVGA 800 x 480 resolution.

In 2009, Arizona State University’s Flexible Display Center unveiled a flexible, ultra-thin touch screen. They are currently working with HP on developing a pliable color display. It’s feasible that very soon everybody will carry a pliable 20-inch display in their pocket. Forget this new rush to the tablet market, in the future; technology will more likely resemble a handkerchief .
