Langtang Mafia was a clique of the military “boys” from Plateau State who held sway during President Ibrahim Babangida’s era. They were so visible between1985-1993. The purported members included Lt Gen Joshua Nimyel Dogonyaro (rtd), Lt Gen Jeremiah Useni (rtd), who later continued in Abacha’s government and also chaired Arewa Consultative Forum, Lt. Gen Domkat Bali (rtd), who retired into farming, and Brig Gen John Nanzip Shagaya (rtd), who became a senator between 2007- 2011.
I wouldn’t know what has happened to them but they have completely withdrawn from the scene and hardly comment on national issues. During Jos crises, they were not heard and today their voices are not heard as well. All of them being Christians, it is assumed their silence on national issues is to keep away from offending the caliphate. Now there is a national discourse going on concerning the future of the nation and it would have been interesting to know the views of the mafia.
