So let's assume you're a visitor in the US, standing on your own and doing your thing. An old classmates of yours whom you never got along with, but who coincidentally happens to be a US citizen sees you, and comes over to start raining blows on you or slaps you.

You call the police, who come and asks people around the area what happened. Those people will tell them what they saw. : they saw You standing and eating pop corn, and out of the blues a man comes over to slap you. What nonsense are you talking? If you assault someone in the US it doesn't matter what nationality the victim is (or the aggressor for that manner), if a crime has been committed the perpetrator will have to deal with the criminal justice system.
