RAMPAGING cult gang popularly known as Badoo which has for some time now laid siege to Ikorodu and environs maiming and killing innocent residents seemed to be daring the Police clampdown order on their murderous activities with their recent onslaught on two churches in Owode-Oniri, about 13 kilometers away from Ikorodu two; killing four persons. The two churches are located on Anibaba Street. Sources who gave the names of the churches as Celestial and Cherubim and Seraphim said the parishioners had barely ended a vigil on that Monday night and were about to sleeping before leaving for their various destinations at dawn when the blood-thirsty gang scaled an uncompleted building adjacent to the two churches, armed with their mystery stones with which they smashed the heads of their victims including a nine months old baby identified as Dabira and her unnamed mother as well as another one year-old boy called Ayomide. But the mother of the one year-old boy whose name was also not immediately known but simply identified as MummyAyomide sources hinted, was rushed to the near medical center where she later gave up the ghost. According to sources, the bizarre incident spewed confusion in the area as residents quickly mobilized to chase after the assailants who had since made good their escape.
Earlier in the week, a joint taskforce comprising the Police, the DSS and personnel of the new Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency LSNA led by its chairman, Mr. Israel Ajao, a retired DIG, members of the outlawed Oodua Peoples’ Congress OPC carried out a massive raid on various hideouts of the murderous gang in Ikorodu and environs arresting over 100 members. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to determine their individual culpability. But while the raid was being carried out, news filtered in that an unnamed leader of the Badoo cult group was already recruiting fresh members with a view to perpetrating more havoc in the state even as the Police and other security agencies had vowed to completely decimate the cult group from existence.
It was not possible to get the reaction of the Lagos State Police public relations officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole as of the time of this report but a senior Police source at the Command Headquarters Ikeja said the Police was already investigating the incident to ascertaining if it was carried out by Badoo cult group or another killer gang hiding under the cloak of Badoo. “We are already investigating the incident so that we will be able to know if this recent attack was perpetrated by the same Badoo boys we raided and arrested about 100 members on Saturday that have shifted base towards the metropolis,” the source said.
