The Incapacitated Nature Of Nigeria's Security Environment: The way forward by adebayoyemi(m): 11:31am On Jul 06, 2017
Welcome to Nigeria where the Hobbessian state
of nature as propounded by Thomas Hobbes has
come to stay, where lawlessness has become
her brother and injustice her kinswoman. Without
a doubt, the 'nation state' has become a state of
natural warfare where
man is a wolf to his fellow man.

One vital factor that attracts foreign investors
aside a nation's good economic policies is the
nature of its environment.
On the contrary, with dominant issues of
kidnappings, robberies, among others, many
have been killed, injured and left to deal with
psychological issues and properties being
destroyed as well. In actual fact, the foregoing
issues have led to attributing
bad thoughts and perceptions which have in turn
tarnished the
county's image.

The questions set in;

For how long shall we live in continual fear?
For how long shall we erect high fences
attached with barbed wire, plus dogs in our
homes, all
these in fear of being armed by hooligans.
The painful truth is that, the question posed have
been unanswered as security personnel have
also resulted in carrying out murderous attacks
such as; making use of the perpetrators in their
operations.
If we must cohabit peaceably, we must equip our
security personnel with adequate trainings
required, so as to deliver optimum results.

To that end, the following are recommended to
effectively solve the incapacitated Nature of
Nigerian Security Environment:
Firstly, our leaders who have sworn by
virtue of their positions of authority to protect
lives and properties must take seriously this
great responsibility by ensuring that there are
competent security personnel to counter the
challenging issues
.
Also, every security personnel must recognize
the fact that serving the country is a duty and it
requires of him or her to be of good conduct,
inspired by patriotism.

The government should also create job
opportunities and invest in the youth through
seminars and symposia, indicating the oddness in
such works, by so doing, this will prevent them from resorting to illegal means of livelihood.

Furthermore, the government must also honour
the security personnel (if it calls for) and fund
them adequately as this would prevent
compromising the security systems in place
therefore, being loyal in serving one's nation
comes to play.

In addition to, justice delayed is justice denied,
so therefore anyone found guilty of a criminal
offence should be penalized immediately.

Finally, all citizens must play their roles in
guaranteeing the protection of lives by being
vigilant, being informed about their neighbors and also report any suspicious movement of both
inanimate and animate objects to
the appropriate security agency.

With these, Nigeria is relieved from security
threats.
