The bill for the upgrading of Maritime Academy Oron, Akwa Ibom State into Federal University of Maritime Studies, Oron sponsored by Senator Nelson Efiong has been today 6th July, 2017 passed by the Senate.

The Senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Senator Nelson Efiong has worked assiduously to ensure that the present Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron is upgraded to a Federal University.

“The Federal University of Maritime Studies, Oron Bill, 2017 (SB. 309) is read the third time and passed.”

"The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki thanked those worked on the Bill, saying that Maritime is one important industry that needs development especially in areas of manpower and it will go along way in creating jobs and other opportunities for others".
