HI MY OGAS, only late at night like this do i sometimes have time to read up on old posts here. the info here is priceless kiss

Please, i want to ask between epever mppt cc, makeskyblue, and fanpusun smartsolar clones, which is ok to get for a budget installation of 12 v and 2 pcs of 200ahr battery installation? or any other suggestion

Thank you in anticipation
i have used epever 30amps for 3yrs, and now fangusun blue solar for 6months now. i can authoritatively tell u that fangusun blue is miles ahead of epever in terms quality and performance.

Hello,

How do I switch to enerygy saving mode? The max rating of any of our LED bulbs is 15W and we are planning to change all to at most 10W. Of course we won't have all on at the same time. I am a big proponent of sustainability.

By the way, can I run my water pump on solar?

It depends om the TV manufacturer. Accessed thru "Settings == Picture mode == Power saver/energy saver/backlighting".

I'm very sure of LG TVs from 32" upwards having that feature. There is this 10 yr old 32" LG LCD that first off consumes 98watts but drops to 45 watts when the "energy button" on the remote is activated. This process reduces the "backlighting" same as the power saving mode on your mobile phone does including connectivity like WiFi, bluetooth etc on TVs that have the add ons.

I'm also sure of some Hisense models with the power saving feature. However this is not an absolute as I had a friend who got a 40" Hisense which regrettably has no power saver. Once got a 22" Skyrun off of Konga. It naturally consumes 30 watts but sold it off after one month upon discovering it had nothing remotely close to power saver mode.

Summarily, when going solar, think gradual replacement of your appliances with energy saving alternatives. When going shopping, avoid online malls where you won't have the luxury of directly testing the appliance's energy rating. When you go to shops, always be armed with a wattmeter.

By the way, there is a 42" startimes TV up for sale. It has in-built decoder. Purchased new and only used for 5 months before it got packed back in its package. Consumes 72 watts and you guessed right, has no energy saving feature.

Abeg interested buyers should come forward. Guy needs money grin

Tracer 3210A vs Fangpusun 30/100

Gurus in the house, please which is better between Epever Tracer3210A and Fangpusun MPPT100/30A. I realize that they are both mppt cc and that the Epever has a screen while the Fangpusun requires an external display. Is there anyone here who has used both and can make informed comments about their real life performance. Thanks

Answer by Bobby:
I have used both controllers extensively below are my observations.

I would skip the obvious similarities between both controllers mainly rated Amp and input voltage limits. And talk mostly about areas they diverge.

Manufacturer: Both are made in China by Chinese companies. The Tracer is an original product made by the company Epsolar while the other is a clone of the popular victron energy blues solar . Both companies seem to have good support and respect their warranties without much hassle. At least from my experience.

Heat management: Both are fanless and rely on heats sink for cooling. The Fangpusun has the better thermal management because it is made from one sheet of cast iron. The tracer has a cast iron dedicated heat sink but the whole body is made of plastic.

MPPT Tracking: Both have very good mppt tracking capabilities however the tracer can be unstable sometimes it restart more than once in day to day use. The Fangpusun from my experience has better tracking algorithm especially in cloudy situations. It is also very stable and I have never noticed it restart.

Battery charging: Both controllers use the 3 stage battery charging formula. The difference is the absorption end stage. While the Tracer series uses a time based absorption end settings which is user adjusted. (default is 2 hours) the Fangpusun uses a combination of end Amps, Battery voltage and length of bulk time to determine when to end absorption stage for battery. Both methods have their plus and minus. The tracer series can be frustrating especially when the battery just got to float and temporarily dropped back to bulk due to a passing cloud. This would cause the controller to do another round of 2 hours mandatory absorption. Even if the drop to bulk happened for just 5 minutes. This arrangement is not idea for the longevity of a battery bank. Fangpusun fixes this issue by using a mix of time, Battery resistance determined by how much amps the battery can still take, length of time to bulk and initial battery voltage during the charge cycle. This ensures that absorption time varies depending on the battery state if charge. The downside is sometimes the charge algorithm can be so short the battery spend less time in absorption than is not good for its wellbeing.

Equalization: Both controllers have settings for periodic equalization. Tracer allows users to set numbers of hours an equalization takes. Fangpusun equalization time is determined by algorithm.

Accessories and addons: Tracer has support for External temperature sensors for temperature adjusted battery charging. Wireless and RJ45 connectors for interfacing with computer and mobile devices. Fangpusun supports victron energy’s smart Bluetooth dongle and VE direct USB cable.

Support software: Victron energy can be configured using the victron connect software which runs on Android devices, Windows iPhone and Mac. The victron connect supports firmware of the device firmware (although recent updates from victron has started to disable the Fangpusun Chinese clones). Tracer has the power station for the PC which compared the the victron connect is very basic and can be a pain to install. They also have wireless dongle which allows an Android device to interface with the controller

Log and Stats. Fangpusun has way better stats and logging capabilities. It takes 30 days log of events with each day having stats on Total kwh harvested, Pick Watt, max and minimum Pv and battery voltage, length of time spent in bulk, absorption and float and ability to export history log to csv format for viewing from spreadsheets. Tracer is pretty basic and only keeps log of total harvest for the day and total controller harvest.
Form factor : The Fangpusun has a smaller form factor than the tracer.

Display: Fangpusun comes with no built in display but allows connections using an external display. Tracers has display built in but the display is very limited and had no back light.

External display: Both devices support external displays. The Fangpusun support the mppt control while the Tracer support the MT50. The later is more user friendly and provide more screen estate.

Over all. The superior tracking capabilities, stability and better history support of the Fangpusun wins it for me.

my gurus in the house, I have this battery equalizer hooked up to my battery setup, but the volts are not uniform all through the 4 batt, about 0.1v diff. Is my battery equalizer doing what it should do? mind u I installed the equalizer 3 mont
hs after I started using my solar-inverter

yes.... the 0.1 deviation is very OK.

also, if you measure the batteries from their terminals with a very good DMM (e.g, fluke) you might realise that all are actually reading the same.

still, the 0.1 deviation is ok

cheers

Let me guide you if you may, you need not be afraid to update. Go here: https://downloadapk.net/down_VictronConnect.html.
Download no: 22 which is VictronConnect 1.7 APK (2016-09-07). This is the update that require an update from v1.16 to v1.17. Download also no:17, 9, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 which is the latest version.
Now follow this sequence: You can update without a data connection, so SWITCH OFF your data connection of your phone. If you have an Android phone, go to settings, apps, find your Victronconnect app, then Data usage, background data - SWITCH THIS OFF. ( don't allow the app to run in the background.
Don't jump to v5.4 to update, do incremental updates starting from no: 17. Connect your phone to your device and when it ask for update do so with your data connection off. Work your update up until you reach v.5.4.
Very important: don't mess with the data settings unless your battery voltage and battery type. (I cannot emphasis this enough).
I am using Fangpusun 100/30 with v.1.39 and Fangpusun 702 BMV v.3.10 with no hassle.
Good luck.

I was playing with an old unit (100/50) I had and decided to use the Victron app, following your guideline. Currently, the device no longer boots (doesn't power on at all). I was offline as recommended. I did all the steps (offline and didn't change settings other than set absorb limits) and went further to install the latest app which upgraded my Bluetooth dongle to 2.15 while connected to my Victron Phoenix inverter. I connected it to the Fangpusun, powered down and came back up to see if any change was noticeable but it won't come on. Any suggestion on how to troubleshoot?

My latest project .

The AC power ( Daikin inverter AC) is controlled by a SONoff TH16 ( flashed with Tasmota firmware)

The TH16 controller is controlled by the APM ( advanced power management) software based on how much load the battery is seeing. Below -10 Amp draw means either NEPA available or solar is sufficient more than - 16 amp ( 48 V battery) means other loads are high enough to switch off AC

Control by other parameters such as battery voltage, SOC, grid power, wattage also possible

THE APM software is made by the same South African guys who make ICC to interface with Aexpert /Voltronix /Ipower and BMV

the Aexpert use can use similar seup to control things like water heater or for that matter any other loads - Maxium four independent units can be controlled

The same can also can be achieved without APM using NODERED but requires deeper JSON/Python understanding

I have been using the ICC software since inception but the APM price was kind of steep for my liking did the Sonoff with tasmota firmware myself but been busy to programme

I assume you installed Victronconnect v.5.2 of 2019-01-10 which support Smart Phoenix Inverter and Bluetooth dongle v.2.15
Do you mean 1. your cc can't wake up (LED light is blinking and not steady) or 2. No led lights are on?
...
It's 2. No LED lights are on. The CC is actually at cousin's place. I've had it lying around so I gave it out last year. Thought I'd fiddle with it on Monday since it had been going to float too soon.

No, I downloaded all Victron Connect apk files I could find from 1.5 to 5.5 and did a serial installations (quite time consuming) with a different phone (my primary phone is an x86 and I had been upgrading my Victron devices all along). Figured I'd extend the improvements to the Fangpusun as I'd read it's safe so long as one is offline.

The installation wasn't done by me so I'll troubleshoot on Saturday. I'll contact my supplier as well just to see if he's encountered this before.

EDIT: I just saw v5.6 and v5.7 are out. Will let you know how it goes.

Many thanks for outing this, pranil. Especially the Node-RED pointer appeals to me and should be useable if properly implemented on my PIP-5048GK via the Pi 3. I recently stumbled on Steve Scargill's "The Script" which has made my journey so far on the Pi with helper/automation add-ons/software such as Node-RED much more easily implementable.

Brought in some of these batteries
Valence 12RT Lithium

VALENCE U-Charge Lithium Iron Magnesium Phosphate Battery 12v 40Ah U1-12RT

They have built in BMS in each unit
40ah capacity. Very lightweight
Pulls from medical installs
Currently testing at a client 8 units at 24v
Then in my office, 8 units at 48v
Another 12 units in another site 48v
May offer some for sale if in excess of our needs

House,

Good evening.
I have been thinking over 3-phase solar power system to power a mixed load of 10KW (5.5KW 3phase load and 4.5KW single phase load) between 7:30am - 6:30pm, from my findings most 3-phase setup requires a priming voltage for the unit to work, meaning I need to have another power source to get the 3-phase system working which looks like most 3-phase inverters are designed while considering develop nations with constant power supply.

Also, most solutions requires combining 3 inverter units to achieve the 3-phase power which makes the cost of procurement / installation to be on the high side to achieve. Just wondering if there could be solutions without the need of battery to considerably bring down the cost drastically.

Is there any 3-phase Inverter system solution that does not require 3 individual Inverter units to achieve and does not need another power source to work or without the need for battery since the loading will be basically during the day.

Appreciate knowledge from the experienced elders of the forum with economical solutions that meets this mixed loads and is reliable.

FLASH ..

Nigeria plunged into darkness as national grid collapses again, output dwindle to a meagre 230 megawatts or less as against 4,032 megawatts national average” for a population exceeding 200M ~Premium Times.

Experts predicts it will take Nigeria 100years to have stable electricity.

A gentle reminder that~
Morocco now has one of the world's largest solar plant providing electricity for 1.1M people and is now exporting power.
Rural Communities in Senegal are getting Hybrid Power Systems.
China just switched on the world's largest floating solar power plant.
World’s first solar-powered Hydrogen station now operational in Sweden.
Germany has gone beyond just electric cars, they now have an electric freeway where cars are charged while driving, without needing to stop.
And the list of endless innovations Continues.

In 7 months, the world will be in 2020 while Nigeria is retrogressing backward to 1920 with consistent romance of epileptic power supply.
Our problem here is centralized electricity and a mono grid system, we need to diversify in our source of generating power.
Its a pity that in 2019, electricity is still a gamble in Nigeria. #Sad lipsrsealed

Is it a UPS or an inverter?

We are talking of a sustainable, cost effective solar solution not just inverter only. Guess he is talking of UPS system
