Agribusiness Requires Apprenticeship Not E-books Or Seminars by fiveloaves(m): 10:30am On Jul 09, 2017
Success in Agribusiness, like every other venture in life cannot be achieved by knowledge/information alone. The knowledge must be developed into practical skills.

Knowledge is information acquired through Reading, watching, listening, touching, etc. Skills, on the other hand refers to the ability to apply knowledge to specific situations. Skills are developed through practice.Simply put, knowledge is theoretical and skills are practical.

Nigeria is the only part of the world where people want to attend 2 days’ seminar, buy an e-book and hope to achieve success in agribusiness. Don’t be deceived! it is not going to work! You don’t learn any trade of business like that. There must be apprenticeship to get the right skills required to be successful in agribusiness.

Modern apprenticeship programs provide both on-the-job training and classroom instruction; Apprentices usually start by taking on simple tasks and progress to more complex tasks as time goes on.This is the kind of training I advocate for in agribusiness. Not e-books and 2-3 days seminars!

I am a catfish farming entrepreneur. I raise market size catfish for consumption. If you want to train under me, it will take you nothing less than a month If you are available to come to the farm every day. If want to run a weekend program (Saturday and Sunday), you will spend 2 months (8 weekends).

I don’t give e books. You write your notes as I teach. We don’t have classrooms, apprentice sit on a bench under banana trees taking note as they listen to the instructor in the farm.

Farming is very practical. You can only learn it as such!

OP, it is a lie from the pit of hell. The people that require apprenticeship only to learn skills are dullards. Harvard Business School that has produced the best business managers and CEOs in the world does not subject students to apprenticeship. Rather, they use seminars, case studies etc. Meanwhile, check the links on my signature.

@Technotime. Harvard Business School Most of the candidates for their MBA programme are CEOs and captains of industries who have hands-on experience in their respective fields. They don't just teach theories oooooo. Please confirm from whoever has attended their programmes.

As a matter of fact they are advocate of "Apprenticeship". However, Is case study not a kind of practical for management programme?

Even in Medical Schools, they don't just teach theories. They take students to the theater to practice surgery before they become doctors.!!!!!

I don't have problems with seminars and E-book. They they provide information which could be life-changing but skills is gotten by practice.

Technotimes. I have just checked your site. Great Work!!!!
