Wayne Rooney has revealed that he left Manchester United to return to Everton because he did not play enough under Jose Mourinho last season.


During a press conference on Monday, Rooney said he needed to leave the club to get more playing time elsewhere.


“I have played for my whole career. It was frustrating.


“It was the first time in my career that I haven’t but Ineeded to play.


“I was captain of Manchester United and I had to keep myself positive around the place. Some people will accept playing every few weeks but I couldn’t.

"I hadn’t gone stale but I needed to play more games.


“I didn’t play that often last season and I need to do that to be at my best.


“It was the right time for me to leave and play somewhere else”‎, he said Rooney also insisted he was not coming to “a retirement home”, but has a point to prove.


He added: “I always play with a point to prove. I want to win – I’m not coming to a retirement home.

“I feel good – not fit at the minute – but that will build up in the next few weeks.”

He was already warned that he needs to be fit to have a remote chance of playing again for the England team and/or next year's World Cup... So leaving to Everton was his only way to have 1st team playing time, and possibly get back to England duty
