Boko Haram: Will Nigerians Vote Another Four Years Of Technical Defeat? by Nobody: 5:37pm On Jul 17, 2017
Only two weeks ago, the Chief of Army Staff Tukur Burutai said in a BBC Hard Talk interview that Boko Haram had been defeated militarily. A year ago, President Muhammadu Buhari had also announced the Nigerian army’s 'technical' victory over Boko Haram. In all that time in between, several army commanders have also repeated the same rhetoric, yet the suicide bombings continue.

There is every possibility that defeat can be interpreted in many ways but the general understanding is that when you have defeated someone, the person is rendered incapable of fighting back or causing you any more harm.

So if one is to go by this accepted definition, it means the Federal Government and the Nigerian military are once again politicizing the Boko Haram issue. Why make light of such a sensitive matter if the country is still waging a war on Boko Haram? What is the rationale? Is it to eventually ask for another four years come 2019, to ‘totally’ defeat Boko Haram?
