The Premier League Champions are stalked in the middle of this summer transfer market as they desperately search for a proven replacement for the ‘unwanted’ Diego Costa.

So far, the London club has been reportedly linked with a move for some prolific European strikers and has seen Manchester United hijack their most preferred option-Romelu Lukaku who joined Manchester United in a £75million transfer deal. Other notable names include Andrea Belotti, Alvaro Morata, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Gonzalo Higuain, Christian Benteke and most recently Sergio Kun Aguero.

The club transfer activity this summer suggests a clear direction of where the club is heading to for the 2017/2018 Premier League campaign, having already completed three signings so far, with a goalkeeper, midfielder and defender.

However, for a club like Chelsea, it is a priority for the club to secure an A-list striker that would come in and get going from the onset. The decision and final choice outcome of Chelsea’s new striker will definitely hinge on these statistics and more importantly, the character of the player which it’s clear will matter most to Antonio Conte after series of harsh altercations he had with Diego Costa last season.

Hence, we consider some statistics that could ultimately influence Chelsea's choice as they navigate through the transfer market in search of a new striker.

THE ASKING PRICE AND AGE FACTOR: The London Blues are well known for being audacious in their transfer market dealings over the past decade. In 2011, the club paid a whopping transfer fee of £50million to Liverpool for Fernando Torres which was at that time a British record transfer fee for any player in history.

However, Chelsea appears to have been less desperate but more calculative in getting their top targets and it is expected that in this new adventure for a new striker, the club will not pay overboard for a 29-year old striker like Gonzalo Higuain even though he is guaranteed to deliver goals instantly.

EXPERIENCE AND CONSISTENCY: Chelsea is well known to fancy strikers that show on their profile top experience in the top European leagues and especially in the Champions League competition. Reviewing the names that have been linked with the club so far, only Andrea Belotti {23} and Christian Benteke {27} lacks a European competition experience. Hence, the possibility of the club settling for either of these two strikers is very low if at all there is any.

ABILITY TO DELIVER INSTANTLY: Gone are the days when the London club is known for bringing in strikers that commanded huge transfer fees and wage bills without getting a value that commensurates with what the club sacrificed to get them on board. Andriy Shevchenko and Fernando Torres are enlisted in this category.

Hence, it is definitely going to be seen that the Premier League champions will secure a striker that will hit the ground running, rather than a striker whose productivity will leave much of a doubt to the Chelsea fans.

CHARACTER AND GOOD BEHAVIOUR: Oooh, weird? Antonio Conte's decision to jettison Diego Costa despite the Spanish international netting 20 goals to help the Italian secure his first silverware last season.

Hence, it only makes sense to establish that Antonio Conte will pry more into the character of any of his club's prospective acquisition[s]. Although, all the shortlisted candidates possess desired qualities that will ensure smooth working relationship with the club manager and his teammates. Like Conte once revealed to Skysports Pundit; Thierry Henry about sanctioning any player that poses like a 'hooligan'.

He established ''I prefer to 'kill' the player rather than lose the dressing room to my players! In Costa's case, that is exactly what he has done.
