To check the rate of kidnapping and other fraudulent activites carried out through mobile phones, the NCC has directed all mobile networks to register new and existing subscribers by requesting for subscribers ID card and proof of residence documents. This will be carried out in six months starting from march 1 this year.
Personally I think this decision by the NCC is a bad one because if the exercise is eventually carried out and a fraudster steals and misuses your line, you are finished!

Besides, cant someone hide his or her phone num before making a call? I dont really know for sure if the networks can identify private numbers. The exercise is definitely a waste of time and resources cos the scammers will adapt by stealing people lines for dubious calls and texts. Innocent subscribers whos lines were stolen and used will then be traced down and arrested using the info they submitted.

Even as it is, how many Nigerians will reveal their identities for these GSM service providers? Besides, these fraudsters are more reasonable than this. Abeg, let them concentrate their energies on something else or expansion, and how to render better services.

about time though this is rather too late to make any meaningful impact.

Nigerians are too used to living without control ie anarchy

might be an African thing.
