Sergio Romero Desperate For David De Gea To Stay -despite Less Playing Time by kloppzy(m): 8:51am On Jul 19, 2017 |
Sergio Romero is desperate for
David De Gea to stay at Manchester
United — even if that means his
chances of first team football are
greatly diminished.
Real Madrid are keen to bring De
Gea back to Spain and are
prepared to pay up to £50million
for the former Atletico man.
Concerns over De Gea's future have
led United to arrange a new four-
year deal for Romero, who is in
line to become No.1 if his team-
mate leaves.
Romero, though, says he would
prefer his 'friend' to stay at old
Trafford.
"Since I came to this team, I said I
need to compete with David
because in that way we can keep
the competition level high," Romero
told ESPN. "I don't want him to
leave. We are friends. And if he
stays here, it will help me to be
better."
Despite being second choice under
Jose Mourinho, Romero did get a
taste of first team action last season
in the Europa League.
Speaking about his role in the
club's European success, he added:
"I was not surprised at all because I
knew I could help the team, not
just on the pitch but on different
levels. I think I proved I can be
useful in games like that.
"Last season was great. It was
spectacular the way we finished.
But I think this is just a kickoff on
my part because I want to prove
that I belong to this team and I can
do great things for this
organisation." |
