Prevention is always better and cheaper than cure. Any serious minded person will always try to prevent the occurrence of an unwanted situation rather than running helter-skelter over the treatment.

The government has spent and is still spending so much time, energy and resources fighting the corrupt tendencies of the past government with little or no result, although some of the rot in the system have been exposed.

Instead of chasing shadows, is not advisable for the government of the day to readjust her anti-corruption crusade and concentrate on the situation at hand by trying to prevent the present crop of government officials who were mostly part of the previous regimes from continuing their corrupt practices. Focusing more on their present activities will ensure that is done.

The Paris club debt refund has been distributed for the second time under the watch of this government. What happened to the first tranche? How were the fund utilized by the governors. These and many more were the questions asked the first time. Despite the wide accusations of mismanagement, not much was heard on how the governors unilaterally spent the money.

If this government is at all serious about fighting corruption rather than being involved in political grandstanding, it should monitor effectively the spending of this fund by state governors this time around and ensure that the fund is spent on what is intended for which is the payment of salaries and pensions. Otherwise, the government should shut up and keep her mouth shut permanently on her fight against corruption.

In case you have not seen it, below is the latest disbursement of the fund to each state. God bless Nigeria
