Reacting to governor Okorocha over his statement that what Nigeria needs now is “repackaging” and not “restructuring”.


Okorocha’s statement is insensitive, thoughtless and irresponsible. It has portrayed once again how detached the governor is from the true feelings of the people in Nigeria. Reacting to his statement regarding how it affects the wellbeing of the people, the Umu Afor Igbo General Assembly, (UAIGA), a socio-cultural and political organisation championing Igbo cause where highly disturbed by the indifferent position taken by the governor in charge of the state the group has great concern for.
In a meeting concluded in Owerri, by the group wondered the reason why the governor is managing the state in a “cowboy manner” instead of resourcefully. Though the group does not agree with the restructuring clamour, but referendum, but the word “repackaging” as used by the governor is uneducated and uninformed. It is a wrong word to use, very dubious and fake. “Repackaging” has nothing to do with the content of the product if Nigeria is taken to be a product as portrayed by the governor.


In a product life circle, “repackaging” is needed when the product passes the “maturity stage” to “decline stage” and by this time, the product begins to shrink in the market, by so doing the product may need “repackaging” to make it look more “catchy”. And it is only the design, style of packaging, and size will be affected to make it look afresh in the eyes of the customers while the “content” remains the same.

Only the notorious politicians can be “repackaged” to look afresh when the “content” of their character has been known to be corrupt and damaged whereas they are still the same very “content”. A country cannot repackage herself to look good to be globally accepted as governor stated, because it is fake.
The group expressed great shock that governor Okorocha who was in the meeting of the south-east and south-south in Enugu and assented to “restructuring” has in two weeks changed his position to “repackaging”. The general- president of the group, Hon. Ejike Ikezuagu expressed surprises why the governor is managing the state as a “cowboy”. He admonished his members in Umu Afor Igbo General Assembly (UAIGA) to be steadfast in their cause for Ndigbo. According to Hon. Ikezuagu, he said, in due time, referendum will take place in Biafra land.
