The Adams Oshiomole built Edo State University should be merged to the already existing Edo state owned AMBROSE ALLI University, Ekpoma. which governor Oshiomole administration came to meet.

In this time of dwindling government revenue, Edo state can not afford to waste money on frivolity.

Managing 2 state owned university in Edo state, should be much of a stress to the Edo state government.

No doubt this university was set up by Oshiomole administration in Edo state for political reasons. He reasoned that since there is a federal university in Benin city, A state university ( Ambrose Alli University, in Ekpoma , there should also be one in the Estako part of Edo state.

But he forgot that it will not be easy for the state to manage that university. Lucky Igbenedion during his administration in Edo state went and establish a state polytechnic at Usen in Edo state. But the school now is facing difficulties as Edo state government can not fund it due to short fall in revenue from the federal allocation to the state.

Come to think of it when the graduates comes out they will still be a liability on society as there are no jobs to engage the graduates.

But wait a minute! why is the chancellor saying that the university is set up for the rich. A university is supposed to cater for the poor, average and rich people.

Government do not owe you a tertiary education, you are either
bright enough to merit a scholarship or you must be able to afford it.
I do understand your thinking process, you want to sleep on your bed while
the government prepares a breakfast for you.


Universities don't manufacture knowledge, in fact 99% of the books used in our schools
are foreign-authored, so no one is hiding knowledge from you.
If you need a knowledge, get a book and read but if you need guidance from
experts, you must pay for it!


Here again, you couldn't differentiate between education in general and tertiary education.
Most Nigerians do not work with degree, they are skilled artisans or business men and women.
But you want a free tertiary education that offers no value to many graduates who have
no real practical skills(other than bragging rights of having a degree) which push them into
internet fraud or other crimes when they can't secure a job.

Economic hardship is the cause of crime!
