METHODS OF TRANSACTING INTERNATIONAL OIL & GAS BUSINESS “WITHOUT CAPITAL”
Importation of petroleum products offers a very great business opportunity. The product is sourced from various refineries overseas. Some of the major countries where these are sourced are indicated for any serious entreprenuer.

The first step in sourcing is to search for the respective refineries or major product sources and place enquiries on product availability, price, specifications and other conditions of offer as well as the importers intent regarding quantity and port of discharge, e.g. 20,000 metric tones AGO, Apapa wharf-Lagos.

Then, the source would forward reply on above and if satisfactory by the importer, then the importer now open a letter of credit (LC) through his bank (Confirmed or unconfirmed) depending on condition by the source. Sometimes a bank comfort letter is acceptable for import all depending on source requirements.

The confirmation of the LC is then made by the source through his offshore bank and the shipment is embarked upon while necessary documents pertaining to the product shipment is sent to the importer for clearing and others. Obtaining the product data sheet and the sample to confirm quality at first is crucial. The products could be sold to dealers on landing, outside bar or dispatched to the depot for subsequent sales.
The broker facilitates the overall activities and his interest is protected through a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

The main focus of this(MANUAL) book, therefore, is the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) in Oil and Gas.
Nigeria has a population of over 170 million people and an abundance of natural resources predominantly petroleum. The Nigerian labour market is becoming worrisome with densely populated unemployed despite the abundance of the countries natural resources. The Nigerian governments youth empowerment programmes and her support to small and medium enterprises SMEs is highly promising.
Presently, Nigeria is the sixth largest oil producing country in the world, and its Natural Gas reserves ranks the seventh in the world.
