Neymar could buy himself out of his contract with Barcelona after La Liga rejected PSG's payment of his release clause.

The French giants are set to secure a world-record deal for the Brazilian, worth a staggering £199million (€222m).

Representatives of Neymar and PSG arrived at the La Liga offices in Madrid on Thursday, planning to deposit the fee to activate the release clause - but it was refused.

Neither Barca or La Liga can block the deal and the Spanish organisation have no legal grounds to reject the money.

La Liga has concerns over the origins of the money, insisting only Spanish clubs can have the guaranteed rights to buy out a contract - despite accepting deposits from foreign clubs in the past, reports the Guardian.

Should Neymar turn up to pay the amount himself, La Liga would reportedly not be able to say no.

Earlier this week, PSG were warned a complaint would be filed to UEFA over an apparent FFP breach, although UEFA are only willing to examine the deal at the end of the transfer window.

That would provide the French giants with time to cash in on players to comply with FFP guidelines.

La Liga chief Javier Tebas has previously insisted they would not be bullied by PSG, who were labelled a "financially-doped team."

"Even if they don't pay the release clause we will report them," Tebas explained to Marca .
"They cannot make up some commercial numbers that are bigger than Barcelona or Real Madrid.
"Nobody believes that, which means that the state of Qatar is injecting money and that violates Financial Fair Play."

It seems likely that UEFA WILL allow the deal to go through and let PSG to balance the books by selling players.

A UEFA spokesman said:
"PSG must respect Financial Fair Play rules as do all other clubs in Europe.
"They must demonstrate that they do not have losses of more than 30m euros over three years.
"The impact of a potential transfer of Neymar to PSG would have an effect on the club finances over several years. It is very difficult to judge this type of operation in advance as we do not know the plans of the French club.
"They could well sell a few players for a similar or even superior amount. We shall therefore only make calculations at the end and make sure that they respect the rules."
