Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule was quoted to have said,“

Everyone has a gift from God. The Northerners are endowed by God with leadership qualities. The Yoruba man knows how to earn a living and has diplomatic qualities. The igbo man is gifted in trade, commerce, and technological innovation. God so created us equally with purpose and different gifts. ”


The statement has been used by some to stir up fears of northern political domination in the country.

The statement credit to maitama sule was being used to justify why the North 'seized' on the political power especially the Presidency of NIgeria.

It got bad that the Northerners especailly from the Sokoto caliphate started to sing ' BORN TO RULE'

In my own opinion they have a political skill of sticking together and get their enemies to agree with them, but after the North has occuppy more than 35 years of Nigeria 50 years as an independent nation in the office of the Presidency, CLUELESS IS WHAT COMES TO MY MIND AND NOT LEADESHIP

If they have leadership skills or endowed with it, then a school boy from the south has a better leadership skill. yeye people aided and abetted by some yeye southerner

The "Core North" has lost out in the power play.
Look at this- Today of the three arms of Government, there is no single Core Northerner at the helm of affairs.
The Executive arm has Goodluck Jonathan(Bayelsa), the parliament has David Mark(Benue) and Dimeji Bankole(Ogun) while the Judiciary has Katsina Alu(Benue). Add that to the fact that the Defense Minister Godwin Abbe is from Edo State.

"Born to Rule" indeed. I think the North has ruled the country long enough with very pathetic results!Only Gowon tried a little and he wasn't even of the "Core North".
The Northern region remains by far the poorest part of Nigeria despite 40 years of leadership.
